Supported Applications
The Omega PX653 series comprises bidirectional, differential low-pressure transducers designed for clean rooms, HVAC systems, and laboratory fume hoods. These devices utilize capacitance sensor technology to measure dry, clean, non-corrosive gases only.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PX653 series operates within an ambient temperature range of -29 to 72°C (-20 to 160°F) with a compensated temperature span of 2 to 57°C (35 to 135°F). Measurement ranges extend from low-pressure differentials, including unidirectional spans such as 0 to 0.1 inH₂O (0 to 25 Pa) up to 0 to 50 inH₂O (0 to 12.5 kPa), and bidirectional spans ranging from ±0.1 inH₂O (±25 Pa) to ±50 inH₂O (±12.5 kPa). Performance specifications include an accuracy of 0.5% FS (BFSL), linearity of 0.5% FS (BFSL), hysteresis of 0.02% FS, and repeatability of 0.05% FS.
Thermal effects are specified as 0.015% FS/°F for zero shift and 0.015% rdg/°F for span shift. The response time is 250 ms. Pressure limits include a proof pressure of 15 psi, burst pressure of 20 psi, and static pressure rating of 25 psi.
Series Envelope
The broader PX653 family (including models PX654, PX655, and PX656) supports additional configurations. Models PX654 and PX656 feature a NEMA 4X enclosure with an operating temperature range of -20° to 185°F (-29° to 85°C). The series offers output options including 1-5 Vdc (3 wire) for voltage models and 4-20 mA (2 wire) for analog current models. Excitation requirements are consistent across the family at 12 to 36 Vdc.
Configuration Options
The series is configurable by measurement range, directionality, output signal type, and enclosure rating. Key selection parameters include:
- Measurement Ranges: Unidirectional (0 to X) or bidirectional (±X) in units of inH₂O and Pa/kPa.
- Output Signals: 1-5 Vdc (3 wire) for PX653/PX654 models; 4-20 mA (2 wire) for PX655/PX656 models.
- Enclosure Ratings: NEMA 2 (IP62) for indoor applications (PX653, PX655); NEMA 4X for harsher environments (PX654, PX656).
- Process Connections: ¼ barbed fittings compatible with tubing TY-316-100; some variants offer 1/8 and 1/4 barbed or 1/4 NPTF connections.
- Electrical Connection: Screw terminal blocks, with conduit options (Two 1/2 NPTF) available on specific models.
All units include a NIST traceable calibration certificate. Compatible display meters such as the DP3002-E, DP25B-E, DP41-E, and DP460-E are listed for integration with various ranges.
Key Product Differences
The PX653 series is distinguished by model-specific enclosure ratings and output configurations. Models PX653 and PX655 utilize a NEMA 2 (IP62) enclosure, while models PX654 and PX656 are rated NEMA 4X. The voltage-output variants (PX653, PX654) provide a 1-5 Vdc signal with a supply current of less than 5 mA. Analog output variants (PX655, PX656) deliver a 2-wire 4-20 mA signal with a maximum loop resistance defined as (supply voltage -10) x 50 ohms.
Physical dimensions vary by enclosure type: the NEMA 2 models measure approximately 107 H x 117 W x 53 mm D (4.2 x 4.6 x 2.1 in), while the compact NEMA 4X housings differ in profile to accommodate environmental protection requirements.

Incorrect Calibration
Analog Output (mA) was incorrect when compared to the Certificate of Calibration. The input of zero differential pressure gave an output of 3.9mA, not 4.0mA.

Are these sensors compatible with natural gas/methane?
Thank you for your inquiry, this unit is designed to work with Dry, clean, non-corrosive gases only.
If you're measuring natural gas or methane, we would recommend that you use a intrinsically safe sensor.

What does (3 wire) output mean?
This is a 3 wire voltage output device. Wiring is as follows: The positive side of the power supply is connected to the V+ terminal. Both the negative side of power supply and the negative output signal are connected to the V- terminal. The positive output signal is connected to the OUT terminal.
