Supported Applications
The Omega PX2780 Series consists of high accuracy barometric pressure transducers designed for applications in industry and science where accuracy, fast dynamic response, and long-term stability are important. These units sense absolute pressure and convert it to a proportional high-level analog output. The series is intended for use with non-condensing air or gas.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The PX2780 operates within an ambient temperature range of -40 to 60°C (-40 to 140°F) and a process temperature range of -40 to 60°C (-40 to 140°F). Storage temperatures are rated from -60 to 120°C (-76 to 248°F). The unit features a response time of <100 ms. Accuracy varies by barometric range and temperature, expressed as RSS (Root Sum Square) of end point non-linearity, hysteresis, non-repeatability, and calibration uncertainty:
- 500 to 1100 hPa (mb) Range: ±0.6 hPa at 20°C; ±2.5 hPa across -40 to 60°C.
- 600 to 1100 hPa (mb) or 600 to 1060 hPa (mb) Range: ±0.5 hPa at 20°C; ±2.0 hPa across -40 to 60°C.
- 800 to 1100 hPa (mb) or 800 to 1060 hPa (mb) Range: ±0.3 hPa at 20°C; ±1.5 hPa across -40 to 60°C.
The sensor resolution is 0.1 hPa (mb). The pressure rating is 1500 hPa (mb) with a burst pressure of 2000 hPa (mb).
Electrical Specifications
- Excitation Voltage: 9.5 to 28 Vdc.
- Output Signal: 0 to 5 Vdc (available with 3- or 4-wire circuit).
- Power Consumption: 3 mA in operate mode; 1 µA in sleep mode.
Configuration Options
The series is packaged in a rugged stainless steel and polyester case. A removable 5-pin terminal strip (BL 3.5 screw clamp) facilitates connections, with four-wire connection recommended to avoid voltage drop in the negative power line.
- Process Connection: ¼" barbed fitting (0.290 in diameter).
- Housing Dimensions: Depth: 90.3 mm (3.56 in); Height: 76.7 mm (3.02 in); Width: 59.9 mm (2.36 in). Mounting hole diameter is 0.140 in.
- Weight: 137 g (4.8 oz).
The unit includes a sleep mode that draws only 1 micro amp, allowing almost instant turn-on and reading for remote applications. It is shipped in sleep mode and requires an external trigger to activate; terminal 1 can be jumpered to terminal 4 for continuous operation.
Key Product Differences
The PX2780 series offers five specific model configurations distinguished by barometric range:
- PX2780-500B5V: 500 to 1100 hPa (mb).
- PX2780-600B5V: 600 to 1100 hPa (mb).
- PX2780-600NB5V: 600 to 1060 hPa (mb).
- PX2780-800B5V: 800 to 1100 hPa (mb).
- PX2780-800NB5V: 800 to 1060 hPa (mb).
All models feature a high accuracy ceramic sensor coupled with a digital compensation circuit using a custom ASIC. Each unit comes complete with an NIST traceable calibration certificate and operator's manual.
