Supported Applications
The Omega D6000 Series is a family of complete data acquisition modules designed for use in process control systems. These analog to Modbus serial interface modules support applications including process monitoring, remote data logging, product testing, and direct connection to PLCs.
All modules communicate via an RS-485 Serial Port using the MODBUS RTU protocol. The series is engineered so that D6000 Series modules can be mixed and matched on a single RS485 serial communications line, with up to 247 modules linkable to one port.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The D6000 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F) and a storage temperature range of -25 to 85°C (-13 to 185°F). Humidity ratings are specified as 0 to 95% non-condensing. The modules utilize an unregulated power supply from +10V to +30 Vdc, protected against power supply reversals.
Performance specifications vary by module type:
- Voltage Inputs (D6100): 7 differential channels with ranges of ±0.025V, ±0.05V, ±0.1V, ±1V, ±5V, and ±10V; accuracy is ±0.05% of FS maximum.
- Current Inputs (D6200): 7 differential channels with a range of ±20 mA; accuracy is ±0.05% of FS maximum.
- Analog Outputs (D6500): Two programmable outputs for voltage or current with an update rate of 250 conversions per second and settling time to 0.1% FS in 1 ms; accuracy is ±0.1%.
- Digital I/O: Digital output modules (D6720) feature a digital output update rate of 4.5 Hz.
The series features continuous self-calibration and programmable digital filters. Input burnout protection is provided to 250 Vac for voltage, current, thermocouple, analog output, and digital input modules where applicable.
Thermocouple Measurement Envelope (D6300/D6400)
The D6300 and D6400 models support 7 differential channels for Thermocouples J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and C. Documented ranges include:
- J: -200 to 760°C (-328 to 1400°F)
- K: -150 to 1250°C (-238 to 2282°F)
- T: -200 to 400°C (-328 to 752°F)
- E: -100 to 1000°C (-148 to 1832°F)
- R: 0 to 1750°C (32 to 3182°F)
- S: 0 to 1750°C (32 to 3182°F)
- B: 0 to 1820°C (32 to 3308°F)
- C: 0 to 2315°C (32 to 4199°F)
Thermocouple accuracy from all sources is ±1.5°C maximum for J, K, T, E types and ±3.5°C maximum for R, S, B, C types at ambient temperatures of 0 to 40°C.
Configuration Options
The D6000 Series offers a configurable envelope across seven primary model numbers covering differential voltage inputs, current inputs, thermocouple inputs, combined analog inputs, analog outputs, digital inputs, and digital outputs. Each module is identified by a unique user-programmable address.
Configuration flexibility is provided through an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) that stores setup information and calibration constants non-volatily without batteries. Setup parameters such as baud rate, parity, and slave address can be configured remotely via the communications port or by grounding the DEFAULT* pin to enter Default Mode.
Module Configurations
- D6100: 7-channel differential voltage input module with a resolution of 16-bit ADC and an update rate of 25/20 conversions per second. Input impedance is 20 MΩ min.
- D6200: 7-channel differential current input module (±20 mA) with 16-bit ADC resolution.
- D6300: 7-channel differential thermocouple input module supporting types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, and C. Features automatic cold junction compensation and open/over-range indication.
- D6400: 7-channel universal input module combining voltage, thermocouple, and current capabilities with specifications equal to the D6100, D6200, and D6300 series.
- D6500: 2-channel analog output module programmable for Voltage (0 to 10 Vdc, ±10 Vdc) or Current (0 to 20 mA, 4 to 20 mA). Includes a 12-bit DAC and isolation of 500 Vac from system ground.
- D6710: 15-channel digital input module with internal 10K pull-up resistors accepting direct switch closure. Logic levels are <1Vdc for "0" and ≥3.5Vdc for "1", isolated at 500 Vac.
- D6720: 15-channel digital output module with open-collector outputs rated to 30 Vdc, 100 mA maximum. Features short circuit protection to 500 mA and isolation of 500 Vac.
The modules are housed in ABS thermoplastic (UL-94-5VA rated) with overall dimensions of 102 H x 152 W x 38 mm D (4 x 6 x 1.5"). Mounting holes are spaced at 165 mm (6.6") on center, and a screw terminal barrier plug is supplied for electrical connection.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes itself through specific channel counts and signal types per model number:
- D6100 vs. D6400: The D6100 is dedicated to 7 differential voltage inputs, whereas the D6400 provides a universal interface for 7 channels of voltage, thermocouple, or current.
- Analog Output (D6500): Unlike input modules which feature 16-bit ADC resolution, the D6500 analog output module utilizes a 12-bit DAC with an update rate of 250 conversions per second and includes readback capability via an 8-bit ADC.
- Digital I/O (D6710/D6720): The D6710 provides 15 digital inputs, while the D6720 offers 15 open-collector outputs. Both feature isolation of 500 Vac from system ground.
- DIN Rail Mounting: While standard modules are designed for panel mounting with specific hole spacing, the DMK-1 DIN rail mounting kit is available as an accessory to adapt D6000 Series modules for DIN rail installation.
