Supported Applications

The Omega DBCL-400 Ambient 5 °C to 450 °C Temperature Dry Block Calibrator provides a safe, dry, constant temperature source for checking and calibrating a wide range of temperature sensors, systems, indicators, and thermometers. Designed as both a benchtop unit and a portable field instrument weighing 11 lbs (5 Kg), the series utilizes a machined aluminum block as the heat transfer medium to establish stable thermal environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The DBCL-400 operates within an ambient temperature range of 5°C/9°F to 40°C/104°F and supports a measurement range from 5°C/9°F above ambient up to 450°C/850°F. An over-temperature limit protection circuit is set at 470°C/875°F. The unit features an automatic fan cooling system with the following thermal response characteristics:

  • Heat up time (25°C to 400°C): 12 minutes
  • Cool down (400°C to 100°C): 20 minutes

Accuracy specifications vary by temperature range: ±0.4°C (50 to 400°C) / ±0.7°F (122 to 752°F), and ±0.6°C (400 to 450°C) / ±1.0°C (752 to 850°F). Stability after 15 minutes is specified as ±0.050°C (50 to 400°C) / ±0.090°C (122 to 752°F). Well-to-well radial uniformity is documented at 0.015°C at 100°C and 0.052°C at 300°C. The display resolution is 0.1°. Quoted specifications apply for an ambient temperature range of 10°C/50°F to 30°C/86°F; performance may deteriorate outside this range while maintaining safe operation.

Configuration Options

The series supports two primary power supply configurations: 230V, 50/60Hz, 900W and 120V, 50/60Hz, 900W. Electrical connections utilize a power cable with plug; wire color codes are Live (Brown for 240V / Black for 120V), Neutral (Blue for 240V / White for 120V), and Earth ground (Green/yellow or Green). The unit requires earth grounding to ensure proper electrical safety.

Configuration options include various inserts, accessories, and replacement parts:

  • Inserts: Multiwell insert with 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16" & 3/8" holes (DBCL-400-3041); Blank insert (DBCL-400-3047); Inserts configured for specific hole combinations including 5 x 1/4" (DBCL-400-3043), mixed sizes such as 1 x 9/16" & 1 x 1/4" (DBCL-400-3048), and Blackbody Source insert for IR pyrometers (DBCL-400-3129).
  • Accessories: Unit carrying strap (4168), Insert extractor (4153), Carrying case (DBCL-3052), and region-specific power cables including UK 240V with 13amp plug (DBCL-UKCABLE) and Euro style R/A Schuko plug (4164).
  • Replacement Parts: Heaters, temperature controllers, PRTs, solid state relays, fuses (4 amp for 240V units; 8 amp for 120V units), heater blocks, and cooling fans.

The unit dimensions are 8.75 x 8 x 8 inches / 222.25 x 203.2 x 203.2 mm (excluding carrying strap). Immersion depth is specified as 4.5" (114.3mm).

Key Product Differences

The DBCL-400 series distinguishes between two voltage variants: the DBCL-400-120 for 120V operation and the DBCL-400-240 for 230V/240V operation. Units marked 230V on the rating plate operate at 220V, while units marked 120V operate at 110V; in both cases where voltage deviates from nominal ratings, the heating rate degrades by approximately 8%. The series includes a fused plug for UK use fitted with a 5 AMP fuse. No operator-maintainable parts are located within the equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Staff Compliance Engineer We recently integrated this Portable Dry Block Calibrator with Multiple Well Insert into our lab’s daily calibration routine, and it has exceeded expectations in both accuracy and usability. The temperature stability and uniformity are excellent — meeting professional metrology standards while remaining extremely user-friendly and portable. The multiple well insert design is a huge advantage, allowing us to calibrate various probe sizes simultaneously, which saves both time and setup effort during multi-point calibrations. Build quality feels robust, warm-up time is fast, and the digital control interface is intuitive and responsive. The calibrator maintains consistent performance even under extended use — making it ideal for on-site verification, QA validation, and IEC/ISO 17025 traceable work. Overall, this unit provides exceptional value and precision. Highly recommended for any lab or engineer who needs a reliable, portable, and accurate dry block calibrator. Rating: 5/5 — Outstanding performance, efficiency, and design.
