Supported Applications
The CL-355A is a compact, portable dry-block temperature calibrator that provides a safe, dry, constant-temperature source for checking and calibrating temperature sensors. Light enough to carry at 4 kg (9 lb), it works equally well on the bench for standard lab work or as a handheld field unit.
Heat is transferred through a machined aluminum insert block, and the calibrator covers a broad span from 5°C (9°F) above ambient to 400°C (752°F). Fast heat-up and cool-down make it practical for moving between calibration points, while an included NIST-traceable calibration certificate supports documented, traceable results.
HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE DANGEROUS: they can cause serious burns and ignite combustible material. Wear protective gloves, keep hot objects away from combustible materials, and do not operate the unit near inflammable liquids or gases or place liquid in the unit. The calibrator carries the CE mark and a 3 year warranty.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Performance is specified across the full working range:
- Temperature range: 5°C (9°F) above ambient to 400°C (752°F).
- Display accuracy: ±0.6°C (1.1°F).
- Stability after 15 min: ±0.15°C (0.27°F).
- Well-to-well uniformity: 0.015 to 0.025°C (0.027 to 0.045°F).
- Display resolution: 0.1°.
Thermal cycling is quick: the heating rate from 20 to 400°C (68 to 752°F) takes 12 min, and the cooling rate from 400 to 100°C (752 to 212°F) takes 21 min, assisted by automatic fan cooling. An independent over-temperature cutout at 450°C (842°F) and temperature-sensor burnout protection guard against fault conditions.
The unit operates in ambient conditions of 5 to 40°C (9 to 104°F) at up to 95% relative humidity, non-condensing. Insert immersion depth is 114 mm (4.5"). Power is drawn at 120 Vac or 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz, 900 W.
Configuration Options
The CL-355A family is offered in two mains-voltage builds that share identical measurement performance and differ only in electrical supply:
- CL-355A - configured for 120 Vac operation.
- CL-355A-230 - configured for 240 Vac operation.
Both draw 50/60 Hz at 900 W and use the same automatic fan cooling, independent over-temperature cutout and sensor burnout protection. Application flexibility comes instead from the insert block: a multi-well insert is included with 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8" wells, and 10 insert formats are available so the well pattern can be matched to the probes under test.
Key Product Differences
The model number follows the guide CL-355A - <VOLTAGE>. The orderable line is:
- CL-355A - portable block calibrator, 120 Vac.
- CL-355A-230 - portable block calibrator, 240 Vac.
- CL-350A-CASE - carrying case for the CL-355A.
Each calibrator comes complete with the operator's manual, mains cable, shoulder carrying strap, insert removal tool and one multi-well insert. The unit measures 222.25 H x 203.2 W x 203.2 mm D (8.8 x 7.9 x 7.9") excluding the carrying strap and weighs 4 kg (9 lb), keeping it genuinely portable for field calibration.
