Supported Applications

The Omega RDXL8 series is an 8-input portable thermometer and data logger designed for industrial data logging, remote logging, and mobile measuring applications. The unit features a graphical LCD display with real-time monitoring capabilities and SD/SDHC card storage for recording temperature measurements across multiple channels.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The RDXL8 series supports thermocouple inputs (Types K, J, E, T, R/S, N, L, U, B, C) and DC millivolt signals. Measurement ranges span from -200 to 1370 °C (-328 to 2498 °F) for Type K thermocouples up to -60 to 60 mV for millivolt inputs. Accuracy varies by sensor type and range; for example, the Type K input specifies ±2 °C (±3.6 °F) from -200 to -100 °C (-328 to -148 °F), improving to ±0.05% ±1 °C (±0.05% ±1.8 °F) between -100 and 999 °C (-149 to 999 °F). The device operates in ambient temperatures from 0 to 50°C with up to 85% RH, while storage conditions are rated for -20 to 60°C at 75% RH.

Key Performance Specifications

  • Display: 127 mm (5") graphical LCD; available in monochrome or color versions.
  • Data Storage: SD/SDHC card recorder with included 2 GB SD card.
  • Communication: USB interface for PC data download and configuration.
  • Alarms: Programmable high/low alarms configurable for all 8 inputs.

Configuration Options

The series offers two primary configurations distinguished by display technology and power source. The RDXL8 model features a monochrome display powered by eight 1.5V "AA" alkaline batteries, while the RDXL8CD variant includes a color display and is powered by one included 11.1V lithium battery with an optional regulated 12V/300 mA AC adaptor (110V input). Both models support stand-alone operation via their graphical displays.

Configurable Options & Accessories

  • Calibration: CAL-3-RDXL8 provides 3-point calibration for each of the 8 inputs (24 points total).
  • Printing: Thermal printers available as RDXL800-PRINTER (for monochrome) or RDXL800CD-PRINTER (for color), with compatible thermal paper rolls.
  • Storage Media: Spare 2 GB SD cards are offered for extended logging capacity.

Physical & Environmental Attributes

  • Dimensions: 257 L x 155 W x 57 mm Dia (10.1 x 6.1 x 2.2").
  • Weight: 1160 g (40.9 oz) with batteries installed.
  • Certifications: CE and RoHS compliant; includes a standard 1-year warranty.

Key Product Differences

The RDXL8 series is differentiated primarily by the display type and power architecture. The base model, RDXL8, utilizes a monochrome LCD and alkaline battery operation suitable for portable field use without external AC power dependency. The RDXL8CD variant upgrades to a color graphical interface and incorporates an internal lithium-ion rechargeable system with optional AC adapter support, catering to applications requiring enhanced visual data presentation or continuous stationary monitoring.

All models in the series share identical input channel counts (8 isolated inputs), measurement technologies, SD card logging functionality, USB communication protocols, and alarm programming capabilities. The choice between variants depends on display preference and power source requirements rather than differences in sensor compatibility or accuracy specifications.

Can I get 8 thermometer lines that are IR instead of probes to plug into this unit? Also, how long can the wires be for the plugs?

Asked by: AJ AlfaLaval
Thank you for your interest in our products We offered Self Powered IR Thermocouple sensors for example the OS36-K series which provides a type K output . The standard lead wire length is 36 inches . They can be offered in various temperature ranges and field of views. A mini Type K connector GMP-K-M can be added to the stripped lead wires . https://www.omega.com/en-us/sensors-and-sensing-equipment/temperature/sensors/thermocouple-probes/p/OS36 Please note the IR sensor will have to be evaluated with the meter for suitability due to its high impedance . Details of your application such as Temperature Range both min and max, size and type material of the object that you are measuring, distance of the sensor to object , ambient temperature of sensor etc. will help us determine an appropriate IR sensor for your application Thank you

I had bought a RDXL8CD. How to adjust the temperature offset if example let's say the display temperature reading is 1 degree above the actual measured temperature?

Asked by: Anonymous
From the user's guide on page 47 the CJC value can be accessed for each channel and possibly adjusted. If this does not work or you have questions please contact the Temperature Engineering group at temp@omega.com.
