Supported Applications

The Omega TC-08 is an eight-channel USB thermocouple data acquisition module designed to measure temperatures using miniature connector thermocouples. It supports Types B, E, J, K, N, R, S, and T for temperature measurement applications requiring connection to a Windows-based PC (XP SP2 or above, Vista, Win 7). The device is also capable of measuring other sensors utilizing the ±70 mV input range.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TC-08 provides temperature measurement ranges dependent on the specific thermocouple type connected. Overall capabilities span from -270 to 1820°C (-454 to 3308°F). Specific documented ranges include Thermocouple Type B: 20 to 1820°C (68 to 3308°F); Type E: -270 to 910°C (-454 to 1670°F); Type J: -210 to 1200°C (-346 to 192°F); Type K: -270 to 1370°C (-454 to 2498°F); Type N: -270 to 1300°C (-454 to 2372°F); Types R and S: -50 to 1760°C (-58 to 3200°F); and Type T: -270 to 400°C (-454 to 752°F).

Performance specifications include a temperature accuracy of the sum of ±0.2% of reading and ±0.5°C, with voltage accuracy at the sum of ±0.2% of reading and ±10 µV. The module features automatic cold junction compensation with a conversion time of 100 ms (including thermocouple and cold junction compensation). Resolution is specified as 20-bits, with a noise-free resolution of 16.25-bits.

Electrical Specifications

  • Input Range: ±70 mV (Voltage)
  • Overload Protection: ±30V
  • Maximum Common Mode Voltage: ±7.5V
  • Input Impedance: 2 MΩ
  • Power Supply: From USB port (USB bus powered)

PC Requirements

Configuration Options

The TC-08 series is configured as an eight-channel module with miniature thermocouple input connectors and a supplied USB cable measuring 1.8 m (6'). The unit connects via a USB 1.1 interface to the host PC.

Software & Data Output

The device includes TC-08 Recorder and Player software for data visualization, allowing output in spreadsheet or graph format. A single high-specification PC can support up to 64 devices via the driver, while the included software supports up to 20 USB TC-08 units simultaneously.

Physical Dimensions

The module measures 201 x 104 x 34 mm (7.91 x 4.09 x 1.34"). It is CE marked and carries a 5 YEAR WARRANTY.

Key Product Differences

The series consists of the TC-08 model, described as an "8-channel thermocouple data acquisition module." The resolution capability varies by temperature range; for example, Type K offers 0.1°C resolution from -270 to 1370°C and 0.025°C resolution from -250 to 1370°C.

Users must install the software before connecting the USB TC-08 device. The product is not designed for use in, or should not be used for, human applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! We installed the TC-8 on our powder coating oven with 8 thermocouples so we can do temperature profiles. Easy to set up and use!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Have two in place for testing. The software is a bit iffy but they make it easy to access with other programs. Calibration certificates for the probes need to be requested separately. Overall very pleased and would buy from Omega for any other testing needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Device great! Software - not as much. Bought 3 of these last month and work well so far. Using simplest portion of software (no programing, just spreadsheet readouts). Unfortunately, software does not permit spreadsheet readout of all 24 thermocouples at once (3 devices x 8 TCs). Appears to be limited to 16 TCs max. at one time. There is a work around, but is cumbersome. Also unfortunate that could not get calibration certificate when purchased devices, as will need for any certified lab testing.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not as good as the older models Poor software, over-priced. *.plw (Pico Technology) data extension is a huge step backwards; should be *.csv so it easily goes into Excel. The same unit can be purchased from Pico Technology for $499 (shipped from Texas).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not actually 10Hz sample rate I needed a standalone logger that can read a single channel TC at 10Hz, bought this direct from Picotech, and it ended up being a complete waste of time. Because the CJC is included in the logger's reading schedule, the actual single channel rate is 5Hz. What's really misleading is that the unit will log temp values at 10Hz, but the higher rate samples are linear interpolations from the 5Hz sample. The datasheet, manual, and SDK don't cover how the CJC sampling syncs with the channel sampling. So it's unclear if the CJC is being read at t=0, then the channel at t=+0.1sec, which makes it impossible to actually trust the high rate data you get from the unit. It also won't run at all unless it has a USB signal connection, so it can't function as a standalone logger. Two stars because it's a decent unit for low rate (~1Hz), but there's other options that do 1Hz better.

Does this unit need to be connected to a computer in order to record (data log) or will the unit record, and then the data be extracted later by a PC?

Asked by: Troyale
Thank you for your question. The TC-08 is real-time to PC which is logging data. If you would like an 8 channel stand-alone Data Logger logger than you may want to consider a OM-CP-OCTTCTEMP-A2-https://www.omega.com/en-us/control-and-monitoring-devices/data-loggers/om-cp-xtctemp-series/p/OM-CP-OCTTCTEMP-A2?searchterm=om-cp-
