Supported Applications

The Omega OSXL-SC Series consists of benchtop thermal imaging camera kits designed for real-time thermal imaging and analysis. These systems are intended for thermal benchtop testing applications, including R&D projects requiring hardware and software to analyze and verify results. The series supports integration with GenICam™ compliant software environments such as National Instruments IMAQ Vision, Stemmers, Common Vision Blox, and COGNEX Vision Pro.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The OSXL-SC Series utilizes an uncooled VOX microbolometer detector with a spectral range of 7.5 to 13 µm. Object temperature measurement ranges are available in two configurations: -40 to 160°C (-40 to 320°F) and -40 to 550°C (-40 to 1022°F). Accuracy is specified as ±5°C or ±5% of reading, with a thermal sensitivity (NETD) of <0.05°C @ 30°C (86°F)/50 mK.

Performance characteristics include an image frequency of 60 Hz and a typical detector time constant of 12 ms. The cameras operate within an ambient temperature range of -15 to 50°C (5 to 122°F) and can be stored between -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F). Humidity tolerance is rated at IEC 60068-2-30/24 h, 95% relative humidity from 25 to 40°C (77 to 104°F).

Mechanical robustness includes a bump rating of 25 g per IEC 60068-2-29 and vibration resistance of 2 g per IEC 60068-2-6. The enclosure is rated IP 40 (IEC 60529) with housing materials comprising magnesium and aluminum.

Model-Specific Resolution and Optics

  • OSXL-A35SC: 320 x 256 pixels IR resolution; Field of View (FOV) is 44° (H) x 36° (V) with a 5 mm lens; Spatial Resolution (IFOV) is 10.0 mrad for the 5 mm lens.
  • OSXL-A15SC: 160 x 128 pixels IR resolution; FOV is 48° (H) x 39° (V) with a 9 mm lens; Spatial Resolution (IFOV) is 5.56 mrad for the 9 mm lens.
  • OSXL-A5SC: 80 x 64 pixels IR resolution; FOV is 48° (H) x 39° (V) with a 9 mm lens; Spatial Resolution (IFOV) is 2.78 mrad for the 9 mm lens.

All models feature fixed focus, an F-Number of 1.25, and detector pitches of 25 µm (OSXL-A5SC) or 50 µm (OSXL-A15SC/OSXL-A35SC).

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across three resolution variants: OSXL-A5SC, OSXL-A15SC, and OSXL-A35SC. Each model supports GigE Vision version 1.2 communication via a standard RJ45 connector (IEEE 802.3) with image streaming as a 14-bit signal linear/DDE.

Power is supplied via Power over Ethernet (PoE IEEE 802.3af class 0 power). An optional external power input of 12/24 Vdc (<2.5 W absolute maximum) is available through the digital I/O connector.

Digital Input and Output

The series includes a 12-pole M12 connector shared with digital synchronization and external power, supporting:

  • Input: General purpose; 1x opto-isolated ("0" < 2 Vdc, "1" = 2 to 40 Vdc).
  • Output: General purpose output to external device (programmatically set); 1x opto-isolated, 2 to 40 Vdc, maximum 185 mA.

Digital I/O isolation voltage is rated at 500 VRMS with a supply voltage of 2 to 40 Vdc (maximum 200 mA).

Synchronization and Protocols

  • Frame Sync In: Non-isolated LVC buffer @ 3.3V; "0" < 0.8 V, "1" > 2.0 V.
  • Frame Sync Out: Non-isolated LVC buffer @ 3.3V to control another Ax5 camera; "0" = 24 mA maximum, "1" = -24 mA maximum.

The cameras support TCP, UDP, ICMP, IGMP, DHCP, and GigEVision protocols over a Gigabit Ethernet connection.

Mounting and Accessories

Standard mounting includes 4 x M3 thread holes on the bottom. Optional accessories include a hard transport case, focus adjustment tool, base support (FLIR P/N: T198367), gooseneck table stand (FLIR P/N: T911098), PoE injector (FLIR P/N: T911112), and various cables including M12 pigtail (T127605) and CAT-6 Ethernet (T951004). Tripod mounting is available with accessory base support.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between models in the OSXL-SC Series is infrared resolution, which dictates spatial resolution capabilities. The OSXL-A35SC provides 320 x 256 pixels for high image quality applications and utilizes a 5 mm lens with a narrower field of view compared to the other variants. Users requiring lower resolution may select the OSXL-A15SC (160 x 128 pixels) or OSXL-A5SC (80 x 64 pixels), both equipped with 9 mm lenses offering a wider field of view.

Detector pitch varies by model: 25 µm for the OSXL-A5SC and 50 µm for the OSXL-A15SC and OSXL-A35SC. All models share identical operating temperature ranges, humidity ratings, enclosure materials (magnesium and aluminum), communication standards (GigE Vision/GenICam), and power requirements.

Compliance certifications include CE mark and RoHS compliance. The series carries a 2-year warranty. Note: These products are not for export; USA only.
