Supported Applications

The Omega FTB-1300 Series turbine flow meters are designed for the industrial and laboratory measurement of water, solvents, and other low viscosity fluids. The series utilizes a wear-resistant rotor assembly to generate an electronic pulse train proportional to fluid velocity or total volume.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FTB-1300 Series operates within a process temperature range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). The meters are rated for pressures up to 345 bar (5,000 psi); pressure in excess of this limit may cause the housing to burst. Accuracy is specified as ±1% of Actual Flow.

Wetted materials consist of Stainless Steel (316L, 303, 1.4122) and Carbide with nickel binder. Operating fluids must be compatible with these materials; incompatible fluids will deteriorate internal parts and cause inaccurate readings. The series is not designed for human applications.

Performance considerations include:

  • Severe pulsation may affect accuracy and shorten service life.
  • Severe mechanical vibration or shock may decrease service life.
  • A strainer should be installed upstream if small particles are present to prevent rotor obstruction.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable flow ranges, process connections, and output signal types. Models feature threaded NPT end connections ranging from ½ NPT to 2 NPT. Flow measurement capabilities span multiple ranges depending on the model size:

  • Flow Ranges (LPM): Available configurations include 0.3 to 1.5 LPM, 1.1 to 11 LPM, 3.4 to 34 LPM, 6 to 60 LPM, 11 to 121 LPM, 19 to 200 LPM, and 49 to 757 LPM.
  • Output Signals: FTB-130X models provide an amplified square wave output via a 60 cm (24") cable. FTB-131X models feature industrial head electronics providing a 4 to 20 mA current output.

Hazardous Location Approvals: The series includes options meeting NEC Class I Groups C, D; Class II Groups E, F, G requirements (specifically for FTB-1310 Series head electronics).

Key Product Differences

The FTB-1300 Series is divided into two primary output configurations:

  • Pulse Output Models (FTB-130X): These models generate an amplified square wave. They are supplied with a 60 cm (24") cable and exposed wires. Power supply requirements for these models are 10 to 28 Vdc.
  • Current Output Models (FTB-131X): These models incorporate an industrial head electronics enclosure that outputs a 4 to 20 mA signal. The E dimension adds 168 mm (6.6") for the protection head on these units. Power supply requirements are 10 to 30 Vdc.

Model numbers correspond to specific flow ranges and connection sizes, such as FTB-1301 through FTB-1308 for pulse output and FTB-1311 through FTB-1318 for current output. A 5-point NIST certificate is available by suffixing '-NIST' to the model number.

FTB-1300 cut sheet says it can be used for water and other low viscosity liguids. The liquid in our system has an abs. viscosity of 0.64. Is the accuracy of the flow meter significantly affected by the lower viscosity? Is there a correction graph?

Asked by: TimW
Thank you for your inquiry about the turbine flow meter. The FTB-1300 flow meter can measure a less viscous liquids and it will maintain its accuracy and you will need to field calibrate since it is calibrated for water at 1 cP. It would be recommended to use a positive displacement flow meter that is independent of viscosity and changes in temperature.

Can it be used to measure refrigerants flow rates ?

Asked by: Dnakhla
Thank you for your inquiry about the turbine flow meter. It can measure this liquid, yet, you will need to perform a field calibration since it is calibrated for water. If you email flow@omega.com we can suggest an alternative flow meter that can measure refrigerants without field calibration.
