Supported Applications
The Omega AHP Series consists of "T" type in-line air process heaters designed to heat clean, dry air or gas. Documented applications include baking, drying, laminating, metal working, packaging, plastic welding, preheating, sealing, soldering, shrink fitting, and synthetic fabric sewing.
Outlet temperatures are varied by adjusting the voltage and/or the air flow. Closed loop control can be achieved with temperature controllers and "T" fittings to mount thermocouples for monitoring outlet conditions.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The AHP Series is rated for exit air or gas temperatures up to 540°C (1000°F) with inlet air or gas temperatures up to 121°C (250°F). The pressure rating is 80 psig. Wattage tolerance is +5, -10% or better at the voltage specified.
Heaters are designed for horizontal mounting and require proper airflow; controls should be used to prevent operation without air flow. Incoming air must be filtered prior to passing through the heater and free of moisture, condensation, or other contaminants. The cold air entry should always be at the termination end of the heater.
Model Specifications
- AHP-374 Series: 10 mm (⅛") diameter; heated length 89 mm (3½"); available in 200 W at 120 Vac or dual-voltage configurations.
- AHP-505 Series: 13 mm (½") diameter; heated length 114 mm (4½"); available up to 400 W depending on voltage selection.
- AHP-756 Series: 19 mm (¾") diameter; heated length 140 mm (5½"); available up to 750 W at 240 Vac or lower wattage at 120 Vac.
Dual-voltage models (AHP-3742, AHP-5052, AHP-7562) can be operated on either 120 V or 240 V. The watts per inch of heated length varies by model and voltage; custom made heaters are available to change this parameter.
Flow Requirements
Minimum CFM required depends on the diameter and wattage density:
- ⅛" Diameter: Minimum 60 CFM for lower power densities, up to 200 CFM at higher loads.
- ½" Diameter: Ranges from 80 CFM minimum to 250 CFM maximum depending on wattage per inch.
- ¾" Diameter: Supports flow rates up to 500 CFM for high-power configurations.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable options regarding process connections, electrical leads, and mounting accessories. Heaters are available with or without NPT fittings; adding the suffix "-NF" to the model number orders heaters without fittings (additional cost applies).
Construction & Materials
- Sheath: Stainless steel.
- Internal Components: Ceramic coil support, resistance element, silver solder, epoxy seal, copper tee, and Heliarc weld.
- Bushings: Optional brass bushing or optional stainless steel bushing available.
Electrical & Connections
- Voltage Options: 120 Vac models and dual-voltage (120/240 Vac) models.
- Leads: Fiberglass insulated leads, typically 0.3 m L (1').
- NPT Fittings: Standard configurations include ¼", ⅜", or ¾" NPT fittings depending on the series diameter.
Key Product Differences
The AHP Series is differentiated by three primary diameters (AHP-374, AHP-505, and AHP-756) which dictate overall length, heated length, weight, and maximum CFM capacity. Within each diameter series, variants differ by voltage configuration:
- 120 Vac Models (e.g., -3741): Fixed 120 V operation with specific wattage ratings.
- Dual-Voltage Models (e.g., -3742): Operate on either 120 V or 240 V, providing different power outputs at each voltage level. For example, the AHP-3742 delivers 50 W at 120 V and 200 W at 240 V.
Accessories include a Thermocouple T-Fitting (AHP-NPT34) for use with subminiature thermocouple probes and stainless steel compression fittings to monitor temperature at the outlet of AHP-756 Series heaters. Dimensions vary by series, ranging from 101.6 mm (4 in) overall length for the AHP-374 to 152.4 mm (6 in) for the AHP-756.

High Efficiency and great design
I've bought several of these because for heating any type of non-reactive gas there really is no substitute or better product available. These have convenient NPT threads on each end (which can be complicated if you want to go to high temperatures which would melt PTFE tape) and are relatively open to allow high flow rate gas streams to pass through. Highly recommended. One tip, don't heat them when there is no flow through them. They tend to burn out easily if you aren't providing cooling power.

Simple to use and install
I purchased one of these for a project a month ago. It was for a piece of test equipment that will require at least three units in parallel. This first unit worked exactly as I expected.

Nicely built
Works as expected. Nicely built. The warehouseman operating the forklift was bringing me the package and accidently dropped it while passing it to me and ran it over. It has a slight bend in the tube, but still works great!

Bought this line heater to heat nitrogen when purging refrigerant systems on aircraft. At 200w I had to use a snubber to slow the flow, but it heats sufficiently for what it is

Well-made heating tube
Really nice air heater tube that is very adjustable via voltage input. Very well made. Will use this at lower voltage to heat air going into a microscope environmental chamber. Not what they made it for, but because adjusting voltage works so well, it works fine for me for this purpose.

How to install Inline heater with Temperature controller?
Thanks for your question. The AHP-3741 is an in-line air heater with a resistive heating element - powered by 120 vac, and puts out 200 watts of power. A separate controller or thermostat is needed to maintain a constant temperature output. We offer a panel mount controller with built-in relay that can be set at a specific setpoint - part number CNi833. Along with a thermocouple for feedback, this controller can be used to limit the output temperature from the AHP series heater. Our Tech Support engineer has emailed you reference doc with more information on the controller.

What is the pressure rating for this heater? I am looking for something like this for 2500psi N2 gas.

Hi, I need something like your inline heater (please see Item# AHP-3741) to heat argon gas to 200 C-- I'm dealing with low flow rates though from 0.5 to 1 L/min Is this something you can help with, particularly off-shelf. Thank you John

Thank you for the inquiry. The lowest flow rate for this family of heaters is 1 CFM. These are not compatible with the low flow range you have.

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have any life cycle or time before failure data for these products since the lifespan is based entirely on the application and environmental conditions which will not allow for an accurate baseline to build data from.

Does the Omegalux 2238 have a minimum input gas temperature? I would like to use it on a system flowing approx -100 deg C gas.
Thank you for your inquiry. Generally with exposed heating element coils, a typical inlet air temperature is around 60°F(16.6°C) for standard conditions. Anything temperature below that would not be recommended.

If I am using the AHP-5052, does the AHP-NPT34 still fit? It looks like it has a 3/4" NPT fittings, while the AHP-5052 has 3/8" NPT.
The AHP-NPT34 would only work directly with the the AHP Heaters with the 3/4" npt threads. An adaptor with 3/8 female to 3/4" male npt would be a possible work around.
