Supported Applications
The Omega LDC Series Low Density Cartridge Heaters are designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The LDC6 series features an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath with helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire and Magnesium Oxide (MgO) fill for thermal conductivity and insulation. The maximum operating temperature is rated at 650°C (1200°F). Maximum watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.
Electrical specifications vary by diameter: maximum voltage is rated at 240V for diameters up to 1/2 inch, while a maximum of 480V applies to diameters of 5/8 inch and larger. Wattage tolerance is specified as Plus 5%, minus 10%; resistance tolerance is Plus 10%, minus 5%. The series includes UL recognized (File Number E65652) and CSA certified (File Number 043099) components.
Configuration Options
The LDC Series supports a broad range of configurations beyond the specific stocked variants. Nominal diameters are available from 3/16 to 1 1/4 inch, with actual diameters ranging from 4.70 mm (0.185") to 31.75 mm (1.250"). Sheath lengths span from 76.2 mm (3") to 787.4 mm (31").
Standard termination is Type F with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires featuring high-temperature insulation, UL approved for 300 or 600V service and rated to 250°C (482°F). Over 40 standard termination styles are available. Custom engineered heaters can be specified with unique diameters, lengths, wattage, voltage, termination types, lead length, cable/braid length, special features, application type, and operating temperature.
Dimensional tolerances include:
- Diameter: 0.051 mm (±0.002") for diameters up to 1", 0.127 mm (±0.005") for 1 1/4"
- Length: 1.59 mm (±1/16") up to 152 mm (6") long; 3.18 mm (±1/8") over 152 mm (6") long
- Camber: 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length
Key Product Differences
The LDC Series is distinguished by its low-density design intended for lower watt density applications compared to standard cartridge heaters. Model numbers follow the format LDC<MODEL_NUMBER>, such as LDC00279 (500 W, 120 Vac). The series offers specific model variations based on sheath length and power output; for example, a 3/4" diameter heater is available in lengths from 3 inches to 31 inches with wattages ranging from 225 Watts up to 1800 Watts depending on the configuration.
Notes regarding installation indicate that the end seal is not moisture proof. For immersion heating of corrosive solutions, OMEGA must be contacted for specific guidance.
