Supported Applications

The Omega LDC series comprises Low Density Cartridge Heaters designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. These heaters are engineered specifically for OEMs consuming large quantities of cartridge heating elements.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LDC series features an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath with high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) insulation and helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire. The maximum operating temperature is rated at 650°C (1200°F). Standard performance ratings indicate a Maximum Watt Density range of 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.

Configuration Options

The series supports nominal diameters from 3/16 inch through 1 1/4 inch, with actual diameters ranging from 4.70 mm to 31.75 mm. Sheath lengths are available from 25.4 mm (1") to 254.0 mm (10"). Standard electrical termination is Type F, consisting of 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires with high temperature insulation, UL approved for 300 or 600V service and rated to 250°C (482°F).

Available configurations include:

  • Diameters: Nominal sizes of 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 7/8, 15/16, 1, and 1 1/4 inch.
  • Power Supply: Standard options include 120V or 240V AC; specific voltage availability depends on the model table. Larger diameters (5/8" through 1 1/4") list a maximum voltage of 480V when applicable.
  • Approvals: UL recognized and CSA certified under UL File Number E65652 and CSA File Number 043099 for many design variations. Agency approval must be specified at the time of ordering if required.

Custom engineered heaters are available upon request, allowing specification of diameter, length, wattage, voltage, termination types, lead length, cable/braid length, application type, operating temperature, and special features.

Key Product Differences

The LDC series is distinguished by its low density design compared to standard cartridge heaters. Model numbers follow the format LDC - <Model Number>, such as LDC00012 or LDC00031, which correspond to specific sheath lengths and wattages for 1/4" diameter units (actual 6.27 mm). Dimensional tolerances vary by size: the 3/16" nominal diameter lists a camber tolerance of 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length, while larger diameters such as 1 1/4" list specific diameter and length tolerances in their respective rows.

Electrical specifications vary by diameter; for example, the 3/16" nominal size lists a maximum amperage of 1.5A at 240V, while the 1 1/4" nominal size lists a maximum amperage of 30A at 480V (when applicable). Maximum wattage values are not numerically listed in standard tables and require contacting Omega for specific sizing.
