Supported Applications

The Omega LDC series consists of Low Density Cartridge Heaters designed for applications requiring lower operating temperatures and watt densities. Documented uses include heat sealing, laminating, packaging, labeling, molds, food processing, refrigeration, shoe machinery, glue guns, wax pots, and heating liquids or gases.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LDC series features a helically wound Nickel-Chrome resistance wire within an Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath filled with high-purity Magnesium Oxide (MgO) insulation. The maximum operating temperature is rated up to 650°C (1200°F). Standard watt density ranges from 3.1 to 7.0 Watt/cm² (20 to 45 Watt/in²), depending on heater size and operating temperature.

Electrical specifications vary by diameter, with maximum voltage ratings of 240V for diameters up to 3/8" and 480V** for larger sizes. Maximum amperage ranges from 1.5A (for 3/16") to 30A (for 1 1/4"). Wattage tolerance is listed as Plus 5%, minus 10% for applicable models, while resistance tolerance is Plus 10%, minus 5%. The series includes Type F termination with 254 mm (10") internally connected flexible lead wires featuring high-temperature insulation UL approved for 300 or 600V service and temperature rated to 250°C (482°F).

Configuration Options

The LDC series is available in nominal diameters from 3/16" to 1 1/4", with actual diameter tolerances specified for certain sizes. Sheath lengths range from 25.4 mm (1") to 254.0 mm (10"). Length tolerance is defined as 1.59 mm (±1/16") up to 152 mm (6") long and 3.18 mm (±1/8") over 152 mm (6") long. Camber tolerance is specified at 0.254 mm (0.010") per foot of length.

Key configurable options include:

  • Housing Material: Alloy 304 stainless steel sheath
  • Termination Styles: Standard Type F with flexible leads; over 40 standard termination styles are available to meet specific application requirements.
  • Voltage Ratings: Configurable for 120V or 240V AC, with higher voltage options (up to 480V) dependent on diameter and design variation.

The heaters are UL recognized and CSA certified under UL File Number E65652 and CSA File Number 043099. Note that this style end seal is not moisture proof, and for immersion heating of corrosive solutions, contact OMEGA directly.

Key Product Differences

The LDC series model numbers follow the format LDC<MODEL_NUMBER>, such as LDC00010. Specific models correspond to distinct sheath lengths and wattage outputs; for example, LDC00001 provides 15 Watts at a length of 25.4 mm (1"), while LDC00010 delivers 170 Watts at 254.0 mm (10"). Watt density varies across the model range from approximately 4.5 to 5.3 Watt/cm² for the listed variants.

Maximum wattage values are not provided in standard tables; users must contact OMEGA for specific maximum wattage data based on design variations and operating conditions.
