Supported Applications

The Omega EXTT-SB series consists of heavy-duty industrial grade thermocouple extension wires designed for connecting a thermocouple probe to a readout or indicator. These shielded extension cables utilize extension-grade wire with insulated primary conductors, a metal overbraid, and an overall extruded insulation sheath.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports multiple calibration types including J (Iron-Constantan), K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®), E (CHROMEGA®-Constantan), and T (Copper Constantan). Insulation temperature ratings vary by construction: Type J, K, and E wire types are rated from 0 to 105°C (32 to 221°F) for the insulation. Type T extension wire is rated from -60° to 100°C (-76 to 212°F). The series features a standard construction of PVC or PFA wire with an overall outer jacket of PVC or PFA, designed for durability and long-term abrasion resistance.

Calibration Types

  • J Iron-Constantan
  • K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®
  • E CHROMEGA®-Constantan
  • T Copper Constantan

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options across wire gauge, conductor construction, insulation material, and overbraid type. Model numbers follow the format ---.

Wire Construction & Gauge

American Wire Gauge (AWG) options include 14, 16, 20, and 24 sizes. Conductors are available in both Solid and Stranded configurations.

  • Solid: Available for AWG 14, 16, 20, and 24
  • Stranded: Available for AWG 16S, 20S, and 24S

Insulation & Overbraid Materials

The series provides two primary construction families based on insulation and overbraid material:

  • Polyvinyl Coated Wire with Tinned Copper Overbraid (EXPP): Features PVC wire with a tinned copper metal overbraid.
  • PFA Coated Wire with 304SS Overbraid (EXTT): Features PFA coated extension grade wire with a stainless steel overbraid.

Dimensions & Lengths

Nominal dimensions vary by gauge and construction. For example, the 16 AWG Solid Polyvinyl Coated variant measures 4.8 x 6.7 mm (0.19 x 0.26 inches), while the corresponding PFA/SS Overbraid variant measures 3.3 x 5.1 mm (0.13 x 0.20 inches). Standard lengths are available in feet and meters, with quantities other than standard offerings requiring consultation with Sales.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the EXPP family (Polyvinyl/Tinned Copper) and the EXTT family (PFA/304SS). The EXPP models utilize PVC insulation and a tinned copper overbraid, whereas the EXTT models employ PFA coating with a 304 stainless steel overbraid. Both families support OMEGA's Patented Low Noise Connectors with ground strap as an option.

Calibration-specific naming conventions identify the thermocouple type: J for Iron-Constantan, K for CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, E for CHROMEGA®-Constantan, and T for Copper Constantan. The series is MADE IN USA.

Is there a tool that can be used to strip the overbraid to make it easier to get to the PFA insulation to strip the wire?

Asked by: CO99999
Omega does not have any strippers to offer for this process unfortunately. Probably using an exacto knife or razor blade to score around the perimeter and pulling off in a tube shape is best.
