Supported Applications

The Omega MTP Series consists of 3-Prong Miniature Connectors designed for Thermocouples, RTD's, and 3-Wire Thermistors. These connectors provide a heavy-duty interface with shielded wire and copper connection pins to maintain signal integrity in temperature measurement systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MTP Series is rated for an ambient operating temperature of -29 to 180°C (-20 to 356°F). The connectors are constructed from glass-filled nylon and accept stranded or solid wire up to Size 20 AWG. A maximum wire diameter of 3 mm (0.125") is supported.

Minor discoloration of the connector may occur between 150°C (302°F) and 180°C (356°F), though electrical properties are not affected by this change.

Configuration Options

The series is available in male and female versions, identified by the suffix 'M' or 'F'. Connectors feature combination Phillips/slot screws for secure termination. The following thermocouple types and configurations are supported:

  • Type K (CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®): Yellow ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-K.
  • Type T (Copper-Constantan): Blue ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-T.
  • Type J (Iron-Constantan): Black ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-J.
  • Type E (CHROMEGA-Constantan): Purple ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-E.
  • Type N (OMEGALLOY®/Nicrosil-Nisil): Orange ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-N.
  • Type U (Uncompensated/Copper-Copper): White ANSI shell color; model prefix MTP-U.

The connectors accommodate protection tubes from 0.25 mm to 3.17 mm (0.010" to 1/8") O.D. Bushings for these applications are available as option BB-SMP-1. Additional accessories include transmitters, ferrite cores for EMI protection, and the PCLM-SMP-FT cable clamp with a ferrite core.

Key Product Differences

The MTP Series distinguishes between male and female connector geometries:

  • Female Connector Dimensions: 7.9 mm (0.31 in) width, 26.9 mm (1.06 in) height, 23.6 mm (0.93 in) depth; wire access hole is 4.93 mm (0.19 in).
  • Male Connector Dimensions: 7.9 mm (0.31 in) width, 23.1 mm (0.91 in) height, 7.9 mm (0.31 in) depth; prong diameter is 3.3 mm (0.13 in) with a length of 12.7 mm (0.50 in).

Model numbers follow the format MTP-[Alloy Code]-[Gender]. For example, MTP-K-M denotes a Type K male connector, while MTP-T-F indicates a Type T female connector.
