Supported Applications
The Omega DialTemp™ Bi-Metal Thermometer Models J and L are rugged, hermetically sealed temperature indicators designed for direct process monitoring. These stainless steel welded thermometers feature a sensitive bi-metal element that is silicone damped to minimize pointer vibration while maximizing heat transfer. The series includes configurations compatible with standard thermowell designs; the use of a thermowell is recommended when deploying these instruments in pressure applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The DialTemp™ series provides temperature measurement across an extensive range of scales, including Fahrenheit from -100 to 100°F up to 200 to 1000°F, and Celsius from -50 to 200°C up to 100 to 550°C. Dual-range dials are available for simultaneous reading in both units (e.g., °F/°C). Accuracy is specified as ±1% of range.
Performance limits include overrange protection rated at 50% up to 500°F. The series documentation notes that these thermometers are not recommended for continuous use above 800°F. Construction materials consist of stainless steel wetted parts and housing, providing rust and corrosion-proof characteristics.
Configuration Options
The J-L-DIALTEMPS series is configurable across dial size, stem length, process connection, and scale range to accommodate diverse installation geometries.
- Dial Sizes: Available in 3" and 5" head diameters. Model L offers the 3" diameter option; contact Sales for specific model L configurations requiring a 3" dial if not listed.
- Mechanical Adjustment (Model J): The Model J features a swivel neck allowing the 5" dial to be set at any angle within a full 90° tilt range. The head is also rotatable through a full 360° range for optimal viewing.
- Stem Lengths: Standard insertion lengths include 2½", 4", and 6". Extended stem options are available; consult the Sales Department or omega.com for custom lengths beyond standard offerings.
- Process Connections: The probe features a ¼" diameter with a supplied ½ NPT fitting (1/2-14 NPT). Variants also support ¾ NPT and other connection sizes as indicated in specific model numbers.
- Scales and Divisions: Scales are offered in single or dual ranges. Division values vary by range, such as ½°, 1°, 2°, 5°, and 10° increments depending on the selected span (e.g., -40 to 70°C with 1° divisions; 200 to 1000°F with 10° divisions).
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between two primary model families based on head adjustability and size:
- Model J: Defined by a 5" diameter dial with swivel neck capability (90° tilt, 360° rotation). This model is supplied with a ½ NPT fitting compatible with standard thermowells.
- Model L: Available in both 2½", 4", and 6" stem lengths. Model L supports the 3" diameter head option, which requires contacting Sales for specific configurations not listed as standard variants.
Note: Certain ranges marked with an asterisk (*) indicate a minimum stem length of 4" or require reference to omega.com for pricing and availability details.
