Supported Applications
The Omega HH506 series comprises portable, dual-input digital thermometers and data loggers designed for temperature measurement using external thermocouples. The series supports seven thermocouple types: K, J, T, E, R, S, and N. These handheld units are engineered to measure temperatures across a broad envelope ranging from -210°C (-346°F) up to 1767°C (3212°F), depending on the selected sensor type.
The HH506RA model includes an RS-232C interface and software for uploading data to a PC, while the HH506A functions as a basic dual-input data logger. Both models feature water/splash resistance (NEMA 4X/IP56) and dustproof construction.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F) with humidity below 80% R.H. Storage conditions are specified as -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F) at less than 70% R.H.
Measurement accuracy varies by thermocouple type and temperature range:
- K, J, T, E Types: ±(0.05% rdg + 0.3°C) on -50 to 1370°C; ±(0.05% rdg + 0.7°C) on -210 to -50°C.
- N Type: ±(0.05% rdg + 0.8°C) on -50 to 0°C; ±(0.05% rdg + 0.4°C) on 0 to 1300°C.
- R, S Types: ±(0.05% rdg + 2°C) on 0 to 1767°C.
The device complies with NIST-ITS 90 standard reference temperature/voltage tables. Input protection is rated for a maximum of 24V dc or 24V ac rms on any combination of input pins. The reading rate is specified as 2.5 times per second.
Measurement Ranges by Type
- K-Type (0.1 resolution): -200°C to 1372°C (-328°F to 2501°F)
- J-Type (0.1 resolution): -210°C to 1200°C (-346°F to 2192°F)
- T-Type (0.1 resolution): -200°C to 400°C (-328°F to 752°F)
- E-Type (0.1 resolution): -210°C to 1000°C (-346°F to 1832°F)
- R/S-Type (1° resolution): 0°C to 1767°C (32°F to 3212°F)
- N-Type (0.1 resolution): -50°C to 1300°C (-58°F to 2372°F)
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable data logging capacities and interface options depending on the model selected.
- Data Logging Capacity: The HH506A supports a save mode for 128 samples with time stamps. The HH506RA expands this capability to store up to 1024 records in data logging mode.
- The HH506RA includes an RS-232C interface and compatible software (Windows 98, NT/2000). An optional USB cable and software package are available for the HH506RA. The HH506A does not include a data upload interface.
- Both models feature a triple display with backlit LCD panels showing main readings (4 1/2 digit, max reading of 19999), date/time, or the difference value between T1 and T2 inputs.
The units accept standard miniature thermocouple connectors with flat blades spaced 7.9 mm center to center. A free Type K beaded thermocouple (4 feet) is supplied with each unit; additional probes are sold separately.
Available Accessories and Options
- USB cable and software for Windows 98/NT/2000 (for HH506RA).
- Soft carrying case.
- 150 mm (6") long, 1/8" diameter stainless steel Type K probe with a retractable cable expanding to 300 mm (12").
- Utility handle probe, 300 mm (12").
- NIST-traceable calibration with points.
- Replacement 9V alkaline battery.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the two models in this series is data connectivity and storage capacity. The HH506RA includes an RS-232C interface, software for PC upload, and a 1024-record logging memory. In contrast, the HH506A lacks the communication port and software but retains dual-channel measurement with a 128-sample save mode.
Both models share identical physical dimensions of approximately 192 mm (H) x 91 mm (W) x 53 mm (D), operate on a standard 9V battery, and feature the same NEMA 4X/IP56 enclosure rating. The HH506RA weight is listed as approximately 255 g (9 oz).
