Supported Applications

The Omega HL, GL, and H series consist of all-stainless-steel (except dial) bimetal thermometers designed for lab and test applications. These handheld instruments are configured to measure temperature in media including air, asphalt, babbit, cement, chemicals, food products, water, and waste.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series offers a broad envelope of measurement ranges across Fahrenheit, Celsius, and dual scales. Available Fahrenheit spans include 25 to 125°F, -100 to 100°F, 0 to 200°F, 50 to 300°F, 50 to 500°F, 100 to 800°F, and up to 200 to 1000°F. Celsius ranges extend from -50 to 50°C through high-temperature spans such as 0 to 400°C and 100 to 500°C. Dual-scale options cover combinations like 50 to 500°F with corresponding divisions.

Dial graduations (divisions) vary by range, offering resolutions of 1°, 2°, 5°, or 10° depending on the selected span and scale type. The instruments feature a hermetically sealed construction suitable for environments requiring robust protection against contaminants.

Dimensions

  • Model H: Head O.D. of 2.37"; stem lengths available between 4" and 9" (6" is standard).
  • Model GL: Head O.D. of 1.73" with a fixed 8" stem length.
  • Model HL: Head O.D. of 2.37" with a fixed 8" stem length and head depth of 0.30" (compared to 0.40" for Models H and GL).

All models share a stem diameter of 0.250".

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across three primary model families, each with distinct dimensional profiles and ordering structures:

  • Housing Material: Stainless steel construction for the body; dials are not stainless steel.
  • Sensor Element: Bimetal mechanism.
  • Mounting Options: Model H supports various mounting configurations (e.g., plain bushing). Models GL and HL feature a hex reset bushing with a diameter of 0.25" and length of 0.12", available only as plain stems without threads or additional options.
  • Scales: Options include Fahrenheit-only, Celsius-only, or dual-scale dials.

Options & Accessories

  • Pointed stem option for Model GL (add "PS" to model code and $4 to price).

Key Product Differences

The three models differ primarily in head size, stem length flexibility, and bushing type:

  • Model H: Features a 2.37" O.D. head with customizable stem lengths ranging from 4" to 9" (6" standard). It utilizes a plain bushing with a diameter of 0.330" and length of 0.175".
  • Model GL: Distinguished by a smaller 1.73" O.D. head and a fixed 8" stem length. The hex reset bushing is integrated into the design.
  • Model HL: Matches Model H with a 2.37" O.D. head but shares the GL's fixed 8" stem length and hex reset bushing configuration (0.25" diameter, 0.12" length). The head depth is reduced to 0.30".

Ordering follows specific patterns: Model H requires selection of range and stem length; Models GL and HL require only the temperature range specification.
