Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series-32DZ is a 1/32 DIN dual zone microprocessor-based temperature and process controller. Designed for compact panel installations, the series manages two independent control zones using fuzzy logic algorithms to regulate thermal or electrical processes.

  • Dual-zone temperature regulation
  • Process control applications requiring simultaneous monitoring of two inputs

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series-32DZ accommodates a wide range of measurement technologies across its dual input channels. The documented measurement envelope spans -328 to 2372 °F (-200 to 1300 °C). Input configurations support Thermocouple types J, K, E, L, N; T, R, S, B, C; 1000 Ohm RTD; Current (0 or 4 to 20 mA); and Voltage (0 or 2 to 10 V).

Physical dimensions for the instrument are 25.4 mm (1.00 in) width by 45.6 mm (1.772 in) height with a depth of 20.5 mm (0.807 in). The unit features an IP66, UL type 4 enclosure rating when installed per spacing requirements to maintain panel structural integrity.

Input and Output Specifications

  • Inputs: Configurable for Thermocouple J/K/E/L/N or T/R/S/B/C; 1000 Ohm RTD; Current (0/4-20 mA); Voltage (0/2-10 V).
  • Outputs A & B: SSR, Switched Voltage 5 Vdc, Relay, Proportional current, or DC SSR.

Safety and Wiring Constraints

The instrument inputs are not isolated from each other; input sources must be isolated. Thermocouples must be of the isolated junction type, and process inputs may not share a common external ground. Signal (Class 2) wiring must not run in the same conduit or chase as power wiring to prevent erratic operation or circuit damage.

Configuration Options

The Series-32DZ is configured via a model number guide: 32DZ - <Input 1> - <Input 2> - <Output A> - <Output B> - <Options>. The series supports the following configurable elements:

Sensor Inputs

  • Code 1: Thermocouple J, K, E, L, N
  • Code 2: Thermocouple T, R, S, B, C
  • Code 4: 1000 Ohm RTD
  • Code 5: Current (0 or 4 to 20 mA)
  • Code 6: Voltage (0 or 2 to 10 V)

Output Signals

Both Output A and Output B can be selected from the following types:

  • SSR (Solid State Relay)
  • Switched Voltage 5 Vdc
  • Relay
  • Proportional current
  • DC SSR

Options and Accessories

  • Option 992: RS-485 Serial Communications, allowing a remote computer to read and write all control parameters.
  • Option 9502: 12 - 24 Vdc/Vac 50-400Hz power supply for low voltage equipment operation.

Electrical Connections

The controller utilizes compression type terminals. For relay output devices operating contactors or solenoids, the series supports snubber protection (P/N 541-0014) to suppress electrical noise and reduce arcing across contacts.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the Series-32DZ differ by their specific input sensor types, output signal configurations, and optional communication or power supply features. The model number structure explicitly defines these distinctions:

  • Input 1 & Input 2 Codes: Define whether each zone accepts thermocouples (J/K/E/L/N vs T/R/S/B/C), RTD, current, or voltage signals.
  • Output A & Output B Codes: Determine the actuation method for each control loop (e.g., Relay vs. SSR).

The series does not include a standard power supply in all configurations; Option 9502 is required to provide the 12 - 24 Vdc/Vac 50-400Hz input. Similarly, RS-485 communication capability is available only with Option 992.
