The Omega NI60 series is a resistance heating wire composed of Nickel-Chromium alloy (60% Ni, 16% Cr, balance Fe). It is used to make straight or helical coil resistance heaters. The product overview identifies suitability for domestic appliances and industrial applications including rheostats, resistance units, acid dipping baskets, cyanide hardening containers, filter cloth, wire mesh, bolts, and nuts.

A note in the documentation states: "This wire is not intended for use in making thermocouple elements."

Configuration Options

The NI60 series is available in bare wire configurations across multiple American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes and spool lengths. The model number format follows the pattern NI60-<AWG>-<LENGTH>.

  • American Wire Gauges: 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 AWG
  • Diameters (mm/inch): Ranging from 1.0 mm (0.040 inch) for 18 AWG to 0.25 mm (0.010 inch) for 30 AWG
  • Spool Lengths: Available in various lengths including 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 feet; also offered as 15 m (50') and 60 m (200') spools
  • Resistance per foot @ 20°C (68°F): Values range from 0.4219 Ω/ft for 18 AWG to 6.750 Ω/ft for 30 AWG

The documentation provides resistance values at elevated temperatures of 425°C (800°F), 550°C (1000°F), 650°C (1200°F), 750°C (1400°F), and 875°C (1600°F) for each gauge. A note indicates that approximate amperes necessary to produce a given temperature apply only to straight wire stretched horizontally in free air.
