Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series TCS Thermocouple Temperature Switch monitors and controls temperature in heating and cooling applications. Documented use cases include food service equipment and industrial process control.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series accepts Type J or K thermocouples with a measurement range of 32 to 999°F (0 to 700°C) for Type J, and 32 to 999°F (0 to 999°C) for Type K. Accuracy is specified as ±1% FS with a resolution of 1°. The unit operates in ambient temperatures from 32 to 158°F (0 to 70°C) and can be stored between -4 to 176°F (-20 to 80°C). It features an IP64 front panel rating. Probe response time is configurable via parameter P6, ranging from 0 to 3 seconds.
Configuration Options
The Series TCS provides a bright red LED display showing temperature and output status. Control logic supports heating or cooling modes with ON/OFF control type. The unit includes two selectable alarm sets (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2) configurable for threshold, hysteresis, exclusion time, and configuration options. An internal buzzer indicates alarm conditions or errors.
Key configurable parameters include:
- Set Points: Lower value set point (r1) and higher value set point (r2), both 0 to 999°.
- Differential/Hysteresis: Adjustable from 1 to 99° for control differential, with separate hysteresis settings for Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 (A0, A4).
- Cycle Time: Minimum stop time for load adjustable from 0 to 59 minutes.
- Ambient Probe Adjustment: Offset range of -10 to 10° with selectable ambient probe types (tcJ, tcK, tcS).
The output is an SPDT relay rated at 16 A @ 240 VAC resistive or 1 HP. Power supply options include 115 VAC, 230 VAC, 12 VAC/VDC, or 24 VAC/VDC depending on the model. Electrical connections are made via rear terminals: Probe input (terminals 1, 2), Power Supply (terminals 7, 8), and Output (terminals 9, 10, 11 for NC, COM, NO). The unit includes nonvolatile memory backup.
Physical dimensions are 3 in [76 mm] wide, 1-11/32 in [34 mm] high, and 2-3/8 in [60 mm] deep. Panel mounting requires a cutout of 2.80 x 1.14 inches (71 x 29 mm). The package includes a fitting clip for panel mounting, gasket, rear terminal cover, and instruction manual.
Key Product Differences
The series is available in multiple power supply configurations denoted by the model number structure TCS - - . Available models include TCS-4010 through TCS-4041. A configuration key (sold separately) allows users to quickly program parameters across multiple units or reset settings.
Digital temperature switch probes and accessories are available under the TS-Probes family. The probe cable length must not exceed 238 ft (100 m). Installation requires mounting away from vibration, impacts, water, and corrosive gases; silicone or a rubber gasket should be applied around the panel hole perimeter to prevent leakage.
