The Omega MB-2 Series consists of 2-piece mica-insulated band heaters designed for heating barrels, dies, extruders, autoclaves, and pipe sections. The series accommodates outer diameters up to 10½" OD.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The MB-2 Series utilizes nickel chromium resistor wire on mica strip insulation to provide efficient heat transfer. Non-hygroscopic mica is used for durability, and a low expansion stainless steel clamping band ensures uniform fit. The series supports operation up to 750°F Max Barrel Temperature with reliable performance and quick temperature response.

Electrical specifications across the documented variants include:

• Voltage: 240/480V
• Power Output (Watts): Ranges from 500 to 2,000 Watts depending on barrel diameter and heater width.
• Watt Density: Documented values range from 20 W/in² to 40 W/in² based on the heated area of contact surface only.

Variants by Barrel Diameter

The series covers barrel diameters from 3½" to 10½", with specific codes defining intermediate sizes:

• 3½" (Code: 3)
• 4" to 5" (Codes: 4, 4J, 4N, 4Q, 5)
• 5¼" to 6¾" (Codes: 5E, 5J, 6, 6E, 6J, 6N)
• 7" to 8½" (Codes: 7, 7E, 7G, 7J, 7N, 7Q, 8, 8J)
• 9" to 10½" (Codes: 9, 9J, 9N, 10, 10J)

Configuration Options

The MB-2 Series is configurable via a model number guide following the format MB. Key configuration dimensions include:

• Sheath Material: Die-formed aluminum coated steel.
• Electrical Connection: Heavy Duty Anti-Torque Post Terminals (Type P) with Standard #10-32 threads. Type P2 terminals are also available as a variant code.
• Heater Widths: Available in 1¼" (Code E), 1½" (Code J), and 2" (Code A).

The series offers specific weight ranges corresponding to size, with documented weights ranging from 0.7 lb for the smallest configurations up to 2.4 lb for larger barrel diameters.

Variants within the MB-2 Series are distinguished by their model number construction which encodes physical dimensions and terminal types:

• Barrel Diameter Codes: Specific alphanumeric codes (e.g., 4J, 6N, 7G) correspond to fractional inch increments such as 4½", 6¾", and 7½".
• Terminal Types: The model number suffix indicates the terminal configuration. Code P denotes Heavy Duty Anti-Torque Post Terminals (Type P), while code P2 denotes Type P2 terminals, both featuring Standard #10-32 threads.
• Power and Watt Density: For a given barrel diameter, power output varies by heater width. For example, on an 8½" barrel (Code 8J), the series offers configurations at 1,200 Watts with 35 W/in² density for a 1½" width, or 1,600 Watts with 30 W/in² density for a 2" width.
