Supported Applications
The ACI Hazardous Room Sensor Transmitter is a single-point, wall-mounted temperature sensor designed for use with electronic controllers in commercial and industrial heating and cooling building management systems. Its explosion-proof, copper-free aluminum enclosure makes it appropriate for classified hazardous locations where a standard room sensor could not be installed.
Because it is rated for a wide list of hazardous classifications, the transmitter is suited to chemical, petrochemical, and other industrial environments in which flammable gases, dusts, or fibers may be present while ambient temperature still needs to be reported back to a building controller.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The transmitter measures temperature over -40 to 200°C (-40 to 392°F), with a storage range of -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). It is built around a Platinum RTD sensor with a PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) curve.
- Accuracy class: ±0.06% Class A.
- Accuracy: ±0.15°C + (0.002 * |t|) where |t| is the absolute value of temperature above or below 0°C in °C.
- Response time: 10 Minutes.
- Current output: 4-20 mA (2-Wire, Loop Powered).
- Optional voltage output: 1-5 VDC or 2-10 VDC (3-Wires).
- Power supply: 8.5 to 32 VDC (Reverse Polarity Protected).
- Load resistance: 250 Ohm Load (1-5 VDC): +13.5 to 32 VDC; 500 Ohm Load (2-10 VDC): +18.5 to 32 VDC.
- Operating humidity: 10 to 95% RH, non-condensing.
The probe is 0.250" (6.35mm) in diameter with a 1/2" NPT thread and 304 Stainless Steel construction, while the housing is Copper-Free Aluminum measuring 3.09" (78.59 mm) in height and width. Field wiring lands on a 2 pole terminal block through 1/2" NPT (National Pipe Tapered) Female Hubs.
Hazardous-location approvals include UL 1203 and C22.2 No. 30, with enclosure ratings of NEMA 3, 4, 7ABCD, 9EFG; Class I, Division 1 & 2, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G; Class II, Division 2, Group F & G; and Class III.
Configuration Options
This series is supplied as a single explosion-proof configuration, the A/1K-NI-R-EXPL. All units share the copper-free aluminum “-R” enclosure, the Platinum RTD sensing element, and the full hazardous-location approval set, so the meaningful configuration choice is the output interface rather than the enclosure or sensor.
The transmitter ships with a 4-20 mA (2-Wire, Loop Powered) current output as standard and can be applied with optional 1-5 VDC or 2-10 VDC (3-Wires) voltage signal outputs. The chosen voltage output sets the required minimum supply and load pairing — a 250 Ohm Load (1-5 VDC) needs +13.5 to 32 VDC, while a 500 Ohm Load (2-10 VDC) needs +18.5 to 32 VDC.
Key Product Differences
The model lineup consists of a single ordering configuration:
- A/1K-NI-R-EXPL — hazardous-location Platinum RTD room sensor transmitter in the copper-free aluminum “-R” explosion-proof enclosure.
