Supported Applications
The Omega DCT-RE Series comprises angular pneumatic grippers featuring exclusive DIRECTCONNECT™ technology and spring-assist fail-safe operation. Designed for material handling in confined spaces, the series provides a full jaw opening of 180° to allow direct feeding of parts, eliminating an additional motion step. The compact design includes shielding intended to repel chips for use in harsh environments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The DCT-RE Series operates on dry filtered air (40 microns or better) within a pressure range of 4 to 7 bar (60 to 100 psi). Standard configurations utilize Buna-N seals with an operating temperature rating from -35 to 80°C (-30 to 180°F); optional FKM seals extend the temperature capability to -30 to 150°C (-20 to 300°F).
Performance specifications vary by model size:
- DCT-12M-RE: Accuracy ±0.07 mm (±0.0028"); Repeatability ±0.05 mm (±0.002").
- DCT-16M-RE: Accuracy ±0.07 mm (±0.0028"); Repeatability ±0.05 mm (±0.002").
- DCT-20M-RE: Accuracy ±0.08 mm (±0.003"); Repeatability ±0.05 mm (±0.002").
The series is rated for up to 5 million cycles in typical applications and 10 million cycles with maintenance.
Configuration Options
The DCT-RE Series offers three primary sizes (DCT-12M, DCT-16M, DCT-20M) constructed from aluminum alloy anodized with PTFE impregnation and heat-treated steel main components. Each model provides 90° of stroke for each finger.
Configurable options and accessories include:
- Sensors: Inductive sensor mounting kits (SD) or magneto resistive sensor mounting kits; inductive sensors are not available on the DCT-12M-RE model. Sensors and cables are sold separately.
- Jaw Adjustments: Adjustable Stop Kits (BR) including one stop and one shielded plate per size.
- Protection & Safety: Shielded plates, wiper covers, fail-safe springs to maintain gripper force if air pressure is lost, multiple air ports, and FKM seals for high-temperature service.
A 4-way 2-position pneumatic control valve is required accessory equipment. For single acting actuation, a 3-way 2-position valve is specified; double acting requires a 4-way 2-position valve.
Key Product Differences
The series differentiates by cylinder bore diameter and resulting grip force at 7 bar (100 psi) with L = 25 mm (1") @ 0°:
- DCT-12M-RE: Cylinder Bore Ø 12 mm (0.472"); Total Rated Grip Force 40 N (9 lb); Weight 0.12 Kg (0.26 lb).
- DCT-16M-RE: Cylinder Bore Ø 16 mm (0.630"); Total Rated Grip Force 87 N (19 lb); Weight 0.20 Kg (0.44 lb).
- DCT-20M-RE: Cylinder Bore Ø 20 mm (0.787"); Total Rated Grip Force 141 N (32 lb); Weight 0.33 Kg (0.73 lb).
Loading capacities for tensile, compressive forces, and moments increase with model size. Actuation times also vary: DCT-12M-RE opens/closes in 0.08/0.05 sec; DCT-16M-RE in 0.15/0.12 sec; and DCT-20M-RE in 0.20/0.14 sec.
