Supported Applications

The Omega GW-001 Series Long Range Wireless/Modbus IIoT Ethernet Gateways are designed to aggregate data from connected sensors and transmit it to the Omega Link Cloud or an Omega Enterprise Gateway. The series supports applications requiring long-range performance, offering transmission distances up to 3.2 km under clear line-of-sight conditions. It is configured for use with Omega Link Smart Sensors, supporting up to 100 units per gateway at typical update intervals on the order of 60 minutes.

The series facilitates connectivity in both cloud-connected environments and non-Internet local-area networks via Enterprise Mode. Supported sensor types include temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, light, external thermocouples, RTDs, contact closures, infrared probes, load cells, digital interfaces, process monitoring, and heat flux sensors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The GW-001 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of -20°C to 65°C in non-condensing environments. The enclosure carries an IP-40 rating. Wireless communication utilizes Sub GHz Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology, with specific frequency bands dependent on the regional variant (e.g., 868 MHz for EU models).

Security features include AES-256 encrypted wireless links and PKA-EC521bit (NIST) elliptic-curve cryptography managed by a Trusted Platform Module. The series complies with Safety standard EN 62368-1:2014 +A11:2017 (Second Edition), EMC standards EN 301 489-1 V2.2.3 and EN 300 220-2 V3.1.1, CE directives including Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU and ROHS Directive EU 2015/863, and UKCA regulations for Electrical Equipment Safety (2016), Radio Equipment (2017), and RoHS (2012).

Configuration Options

The series is available in three primary configurations to address wired or wireless connectivity needs:

  • GW-001-0: Wired IIoT Gateway Standard featuring Ethernet connectivity, Modbus RTU RS232/RS485, and Modbus TCP for wired applications only.
  • GW-001-2-EU (and regional equivalents): Wireless IIoT Gateway Standard with Ethernet connectivity. Connects up to 100 Omega Link Smart Sensors operating at 868 MHz.
  • GW-001-3-EU (and regional equivalents): Wireless IIoT Gateway Pro featuring Ethernet, Power over Ethernet (PoE), and support for Modbus RTU RS232/RS485 and Modbus TCP. Includes 2x USB ports and connects up to 100 Omega Link Smart Sensors at 868 MHz.

Physical dimensions are 170 mm L x 100 mm W x 42 mm H (6.69" x 3.93" x 1.65"). Connectivity interfaces include RJ45 ports, USB 2.0 ports, Serial Port (RS232/RS485), and a DC Jack for power input. An Alarm output is provided via SSR rated at 36 V DC 100 mA.

Key Product Differences

Variants differ primarily in wireless capability, protocol support, and power options:

  • Wired vs. Wireless: The GW-001-0 is strictly for wired applications (Modbus RTU/TCP). The GW-001-2 and GW-001-3 variants add wireless connectivity to Omega Link Smart Sensors.
  • Power over Ethernet: PoE support (IEEE 802.3at compatible Type 1 Class 3) is available only on the Wireless Pro variant (GW-001-3). Other models require a DC 12 V @ 2A AC adapter.
  • I/O Expansion: The GW-001-3 includes two USB ports, whereas other variants have different interface configurations based on model selection. Serial port availability (RS232/RS485) is present in the Wired Standard and Wireless Pro models for Modbus RTU communication.
