Supported Applications

The Omega LVU800 Series is a general-purpose, non-contact ultrasonic level transmitter designed for continuous liquid level measurement in tanks and vessels. The series provides loop-powered output suitable for connection to PLCs, SCADA systems, DCS units, displays, or controllers. Documented applications include challenging environments involving ultrapure liquids, corrosive media, and waste liquids such as wastewater and sodium hydroxide storage.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The LVU800 Series operates with a supply voltage of 12 to 28 Vdc. The transducer material is Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF), requiring verification of chemical compatibility with the application media. Maximum working pressure (MWP) is rated at 30 psi, derated above 25°C.

Performance specifications vary by model range:

  • Accuracy: ±0.2% of span
  • Ambient Temperature: -40 to 71°C (-40 to 160°F)
  • Process Temperature: -20 to 60°C (-7 to 140°F)
  • Enclosure Rating: NEMA 4X (IP65) with PC/ABS FR housing
  • Deadband: Ranges from 10 cm (4") for LVU809 to 30 cm (12") for LVU832

The series features automatic temperature compensation and a non-volatile memory. The enclosure includes a watertight membrane vent.

Configuration Options

The series offers four primary measurement ranges, each available with specific process connections:

  • Lvu809 Series: 10 cm to 3 m (4" to 9.8"); Resolution: 0.5 mm (0.019")
  • Lvu816 Series: 20 cm to 5.5 m (8" to 18"); Resolution: 1 mm (0.039")
  • Lvu826 Series: 20 cm to 8 m (8" to 26.2"); Resolution: 1 mm (0.039")
  • Lvu832 Series: 30 cm to 10 m (12" to 32.8"); Resolution: 2 mm (0.078")

Process connections are configured as follows:

  • Lvu809 Models: 1" NPT or 1" G straight threads
  • Lvu816, LVU826, and LVU832 Models: 2" NPT or 2" G straight threads

The transmitter provides a two-wire 4 to 20 mA output with configurable signal inversion (4-20 mA / 20-4 mA). Fail-safe options include 4mA, 20 mA, 21 mA, 22 mA, or hold last. Configuration is performed via push button, and a 6-segment LCD display shows air gap or liquid level in inches, cm, feet, m, or percent.

Additional configurable options include an FKM mounting gasket (Part #220128 for LVU809; Part #220129 for other series) and the LVM-30 side mount bracket. Electrical connections utilize dual 1/2" NPT conduit entrances.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction within the LVU800 Series is the measurement range, which dictates resolution, deadband, and beam width:

  • Lvu809: Beam width of 5 cm (2") diameter.
  • Lvu816/826/832: Beam width of 7.6 cm (3") diameter.

Model suffixes indicate the process connection type: standard models feature NPT threads, while "-G" suffixed models utilize straight thread connections compatible with metric standards. All variants share the same enclosure rating, housing material, and transducer composition.
