Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series AVU and AVUB Air Velocity Transmitters are designed for measuring air velocity within ducts. A typical application is in VAV (Variable Air Volume) air conditioning systems, where the transmitters provide linear outputs suitable for HVAC management and control applications, including complete building control and energy management systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates by measuring heat loss from sensing elements clad in metal to calculate air velocity. This design provides excellent immunity to drift across the measurement range. The transmitters are suitable for service with clean air and compatible, non-combustible gases.

  • Measurement Ranges: 0 to 785 fpm (0 to 4 m/s), 0 to 1575 fpm (0 to 8 m/s), or 0 to 3150 fpm (0 to 16 m/s).
  • Accuracy: ±5% of full-scale for Series AVU models; ±8% of full-scale for Series AVUB models.
  • Response Time: 5 sec (typical) at 90% for Series AVU; 10 sec (typical) for Series AVUB.
  • Temperature Limits: 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C).
  • Humidity Limit: 0-90% RH, non-condensing.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable output signals and power requirements depending on the model suffix. The probe dimensions are listed as 9.45 x .75" (240 x 19 mm). Electrical connections utilize a screw terminal with a cable gland for 4-8 mm wire (16 gauge wire).

Output and Power Configurations

  • -A Models: Provide a 4 to 20 mA current loop output. These models require 24 VDC +10% -15%. The maximum load resistance is 700 Ω.
  • -V Models (Series AVU): Provide a 0 to 10 VDC output. Power requirements are 24 VDC or 24 VAC +10% -15%.
  • Series AVUB: Provides a 0 to 10 VDC output with power requirements of 24 VDC or 24 VAC +10% to 15%.

Housing and Approvals

  • Enclosure Rating: NEMA 6 (IP67) except sensing point for Series AVU; IP67 except sensing point for Series AVUB. The body is dustproof.
  • Agency Approvals: CE certification applies to the series.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between product families lies in accuracy and output options. The Series AVU models (AVU-1, AVU-2, AVU-3) offer ±5% of full-scale accuracy with either 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 VDC outputs depending on the model suffix (-A or -V). The Series AVUB models (AVUB-1-V, AVUB-2-V, AVUB-3-V) are configured for a 0 to 10 VDC output with ±8% of full-scale accuracy. All units weigh 8.8 oz (250 g) and require the probe to be aligned with airflow during mounting.
