Supported Applications
The Omega Handheld Thermocouple Probe with Short Penetration Tip series includes specialty probes designed for temperature measurement in industrial applications, the food industry, and frozen food environments. The product line encompasses Heavy-Duty Penetration Probes, Tee-Style Penetration Probes, Fine Tip TJ Probes, Low-Profile Penetration Probes, Autoclave Probes, and Epoxy Coated Tip Thermocouples. These probes are suitable for measuring soft materials such as rubber and are offered in configurations compatible with steam washdown applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports multiple thermocouple types including J, K, T, and E. Measurement ranges vary by type: sub-zero to 480°C (900°F) for Type K and sub-zero to 425°C (800°F) for Type E. The Low-Profile Penetration Probe handle is rated up to 162°C (325°F), while the Epoxy Coated Tip Thermocouple operates up to 105°C (221°F). Accuracy meets or exceeds Special Limit of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. Wetted materials include 304 Stainless Steel and Inconel 600, with PFA insulated wire used in specific configurations.
Configuration Options
The series is configurable across several dimensions to meet specific measurement needs:
- Sensor Types: Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples are available via model number selection.
- Sheath Materials: Standard options include 304 Stainless Steel (SS) and Inconel 600 (INC). Consult sales for 316 SS sheath availability.
- Process Connections: Options include penetration tip, threaded tip, hypodermic tip, and epoxy sealed junction tip designs.
- Dimensions: Probe diameters range from 0.5 mm (0.020") for Fine Tip TJ Probes to 6.4 mm (0.25") for Low-Profile and Autoclave Probes. Overall lengths vary by model, including 1 m (3') for Autoclave Probes, 1.5 m (5') for Heavy-Duty, Tee-Style, and Low-Profile probes, and 4.5 m (15') for Epoxy Coated Tip Thermocouples.
- Connectors: Available with miniature connectors, subminiature male connectors, or molded miniature connectors such as the SMPW-M.
Stripped leads are available for the Epoxy Coated Tip Thermocouple by adding suffix "-SE" to the model number. Other lengths may be obtained through consultation with Sales Department.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes itself through specific probe geometries and tip designs tailored to different access requirements. The Fine Tip TJ Probe features a 0.5 mm (0.020") diameter, while the Low-Profile Penetration Probe utilizes a short penetration design with a 6.4 mm (0.25") diameter. Autoclave Probes offer a 1.6 mm (0.063") diameter and are available in 1 m (3') overall lengths. Tee-Style probes provide a 1/4" process connection dimension with an insertion length of 250 mm (10"). Model numbers follow the format TJFT72-<CALIBRATION>-<SHEATH>-<LENGTH>-<CONNECTOR>, allowing precise specification of calibration, sheath material, wire length, and connector type.
