Supported Applications
The Omega CL532 is a handheld loop calibrator designed to source and read DC current (mA) and DC voltage. It supports field calibration of process loops by providing functions for sourcing milliamps, simulating a 2-wire transmitter, sourcing volts, reading milliamps, powering and measuring a 2-wire transmitter, and reading volts.
The instrument includes a loop diagnostic mode that displays loop current, DC voltage, loop resistance, and AC voltage. It also indicates HART activity when present in the loop.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CL532 operates within an ambient temperature range of -20 to 60 °C (-5 to 140 °F) with a storage temperature range of -30 to 60 °C (-22 to 140 °F). Relative humidity limits are defined as 10% ≤RH ≤90% (0 to 35 °C), Non-condensing, and 10% ≤RH ≤70% (35 to 60 °C), Non-condensing.
Performance specifications for current modes include an accuracy of ≤± (0.012 % of reading + 0.002 mA) with a resolution of 0.001 mA and 0.01 %. The measurement range covers 0.000 to 24.000 mA or -25.00 to 125.00% of the 4-20 mA span.
Voltage specifications include a read range of 0.000 to 24.000 VDC and an extended auto-ranging capability from 24.01 to 30.00 VDC (with 4X over range). Accuracy for reading volts is ≤± (0.012% RDG + 0.004 V) up to 24.000 VDC and ≤± (0.025% of reading + 0.04 V) from 24.01 to 30.00 VDC.
The unit provides over-voltage protection rated for 120 Vrms (rated for 30 seconds) or 240 Vrms (rated for 15 seconds). A low battery indication appears with approximately one hour of operation remaining.
Configuration Options
The CL532 features a high-contrast graphic liquid crystal display with 0.45" (11.4 mm) high digits and includes a quick reference bar graph with 1% resolution of the 4-20 mA signal scale.
Power and Loop Drive
- Battery: Powered by a 9V Alkaline battery; an optional AC adaptor (CL530-ADAPTOR) is available for 120 VAC 50/60 Hz operation.
- Loop Compliance Voltage: ≥24 Volts.
- Load Resistance Capability: Drives up to 1200Ω at 20 mA for the entire battery life. When HART mode is enabled, drive capability reduces to 950Ω w/HART® mode enabled due to a selectable 250 Ω series load resistor.
- Voltage Burden: ≤2V at 20 mA (read mA and 2-wire simulation).
Functional Modes
- Sourcing: Sources DC current from 0.000 to 24.000 mA and DC voltage from 0.000 to 24.000 VDC.
- Simulation: Supports 2-wire transmitter simulation with loop voltage limits of 2-60 VDC.
- EZ-Dial™ Control: Features an EZ-Dial knob for manual adjustment and access to configuration menus. Increment is 0.001 mA (or 0.01 % if display units are % of 4-20 mA).
- EZ-Step™ Functions: Provides selectable step/ramp functions with settings from 2 to 16 steps. Time settings for stepping and soak range from STEP: 5 to 900 seconds, SOAK: 0 to 900 seconds.
Configuration Options
The instrument includes several configurable features accessible via the EZ-Dial knob:
- HART® Compatibility: A switchable mode that places a 250Ω resistor in series with the output.
- EZ-Check™ HI/LO: Allows recall of maximum and minimum readings in read modes (Read mA, Power/Measure, Read V).
- Loop Diagnostic: Entry into diagnostic mode can be enabled or disabled.
- Auto Off: Default setting turns the unit off after 30 minutes without button presses; may be turned OFF for continuous operation.
Key Product Differences
The CL532 is part of the Omega CL530 Series. The primary distinction within this series is that the CL530 model functions as a milliamp loop calibrator, while the CL532 adds voltage measurement capabilities up to 24 VDC and extended read ranges.
Both models share similar physical dimensions (approximately 7.1 x 3.3 x 2.2 inches) and feature one-handed operation with alligator test leads included. The series is manufactured in the USA and includes a NIST Traceable Certificate of calibration, with test data available upon request at an additional charge.
Available accessories include the CL530-ADAPTOR (110 VAC) or CL530-ADAPTOR-220 (220 VAC) for AC power and the SC530 rugged carrying case. An extended warranty program, OMEGACARE™, is available to extend coverage beyond the standard 37-month warranty period.
