Supported Applications

The Omega Excelon® General Purpose Air Line Filters (F72G Series) are designed for in-line or modular installation to provide high-efficiency water and particle removal from compressed air. These filters support NORGREN EXCELON® 72, 73, and 74 Series configurations, allowing customization for specific pneumatic applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates with a fluid of Compressed Air. Operating pressure limits depend on the bowl material: metal bowls are rated to 17 bar (250 psig), while transparent bowls are rated to 10 bar (150 psig). Ambient operating temperatures range from -34 to 65°C (-30 to 150°F) for models with a metal bowl and -34 to 50°C (-30 to 125°F) for those with a transparent bowl. A warning note specifies that the air supply must be dry enough to avoid ice formation at temperatures below 2°C (35°F).

Flow performance varies by port size, drain type, and filter element rating. Typical flow values are documented as follows:

  • F72G models with a ¼ in port: 55 SCFM (26 DM³/S)
  • F73G models with a ⅜ in port: 65 SCFM (31 DM³/S)
  • F74G models with a ½ in port: 112 SCFM (53 DM³/S)

These flow values are typical for a 40 µm element at 6.3 bar (90 psig) inlet pressure and 0.35 bar (5 psig) pressure drop.

Configuration Options

The F72G Series offers configurable options across port sizes, drain types, filter elements, and bowl materials to accommodate different installation needs.

  • Port Sizes: Available in ¼ in (F72G), ⅜ in (F73G), and ½ in (F74G).
  • DRAIN Types: Models are offered with Auto or Manual drain configurations.
  • Filter Elements: Options include 5 µm and 40 µm sintered polypropylene elements.
  • Bowl Materials: Configurable as transparent polycarbonate bowls (with zinc guard for F72G or steel guard for F73G/F74G) or metal aluminum bowls featuring a prismatic liquid level indicator lens made of transparent nylon.

The series includes RoHS and UL compliance. Additional accessories are available, including service life indicators (OM-AIR-5797-50), wall mounting brackets, quick clamps, pipe adaptors with NPT threads, and replacement filter elements for F72C, F73C, and F74C models.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between the F72G, F73G, and F74G model families based on port size and body material. The F72G features a zinc body, while the F73G and F74G utilize an aluminum body.

  • F72G: ¼ in port; Zinc body; Metal bowl liquid level indicator lens is transparent nylon.
  • F73G: ⅜ in port; Aluminum body; Transparent bowls may include a steel guard.
  • F74G: ½ in port; Aluminum body; Similar material construction to F73G with larger dimensions.

Model numbers follow the pattern FXXG---, where drain types are indicated by codes such as 'A' for Auto and 'Q' for Manual, and filter elements correspond to micron ratings (e.g., E1/D1 for 5 µm, E3/D3 for 40 µm).
