Supported Applications

The Omega OMEGABOND® Chemical Set High Temperature Cements series provides heat conductive, thermal shock resistant, and electrically insulating materials designed for potting, sealing, encapsulating, assembling, bonding, coating, and insulating thermocouples. These cements adhere to practically all clean surfaces and cure via internal chemical action without requiring air exposure.

Documented applications include:

  • Potting nickel chromium resistance heating wire
  • Cementing on and insulating thermocouples for surface temperature measurement
  • Bonding to metals or materials with high coefficients of thermal expansion
  • Coating, embedding, and sealing components

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series offers distinct maximum service temperatures depending on the specific cement formulation. OMEGABOND® 600 supports a maximum service temperature of 1426°C (2600°F). OMEGABOND® 700 is rated for up to 871°C (1600°F), while CC High Temperature Cement reaches 843°C (1550°F).

Performance characteristics vary by model. OMEGABOND® 600 exhibits a coefficient of thermal expansion of 2.6 x 10⁻⁶ in/in/°F and compressive strength between 4500 to 5500 psi. It maintains dielectric strengths ranging from 76.0 to 101.0 V/mil at 20°C (70°F), decreasing to 12.5 to 25.0 V/mil at 795°C (1475°F). OMEGABOND® 700 has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion at 12.4 x 10⁻⁶ in/in/°F with a compressive strength of 3500 psi and flexural strength of 435 psi.

CC High Temperature Cement features a density of 141 lb/ft³, tensile strength of 425 psi, and thermal conductivity between 8 Btu-in/ft-hr-°F. Its volume resistivity ranges from 10⁷ to 10⁹ Ω-cm at 20°C (70°F) down to 10² to 10³ Ω-cm at 795°C (1475°F).

Configuration Options

The series includes single-part and two-part formulations with specific mixing requirements:

  • OMEGABOND® 600 & 700: Single-part cements supplied as powder (8 fluid oz). OMEGABOND® 600 requires mixing 100 parts powder with 13 parts water by weight. OMEGABOND® 700 mixes 75 to 80% powder with 20 to 25% water by weight.
  • CC High Temperature Cement: A two-part system available as a kit (CC HIGH TEMP) containing 2.25 oz powder and 0.75 oz liquid, or separately as CC FILLER (powder) and CC BINDER (liquid). Mixing ratios are 3 parts powder to 1 part liquid by weight, or 2 parts filler to 1 part liquid by volume.
  • Accessories: OB-KIT-2 is a research kit including 2 fluid oz each of OMEGABOND® 600 and OMEGABOND® 700 plus one CC high temp kit. OB-TL thinning liquid (8 fluid oz) dampens porous substrates before application.

Curing schedules are defined by internal chemical action. Single-part cements cure at room temperature in 18 to 24 hours, with acceleration possible via oven drying at 82°C (180°F). For elevated temperature service, a staged curing process is specified: 18 to 24 hours ambient, followed by 4 hours at 82°C (180°F) and an additional 4 hours at 105°C (220°F).

CC High Temperature Cement achieves initial set in approximately 30 minutes with final set in 18 to 24 hours. Accelerated curing occurs in 4 hours at 65°C (150°F) or 3 hours at 105°C (220°F).

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes products by physical properties and intended use cases:

  • OMEGABOND® 600: Off-white, high dielectric strength; used to pot nickel chromium resistance heating wire. It will not stick to smooth quartz.
  • OMEGABOND® 700: White color with excellent bonding characteristics for metals or materials having a high coefficient of thermal expansion.
  • CC High Temperature Cement: Tan colored, specifically used to cement on and insulate thermocouples for surface temperature measurement. It exhibits absorption between 10 - 12% and shrinkage of 0.5%.
