Supported Applications

The PSS-5A series is a barrier strip style power supply that provides regulated excitation for strain gages and pressure transducers. Its compact design uses a recessed barrier strip, so wires can be secured without twisting, and each unit is made in the USA and backed by a 5-year warranty.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PSS-5A series accepts an input voltage of 115 Vac, 220 Vac (-220 suffix) or 230 Vac (-230 suffix) ±10 Vac over an input frequency range of 50 to 60 Hz. Short-circuit protection is provided by foldback current limiting.

• Maximum case operating temperature without derating: 71°C (160°F).
• Output storage temperature: -25 to 85°C (-13 to 185°F).
• Isolation resistance: 50 MΩ min, with an isolation voltage of 1500 Vrms.
• Temperature coefficient: ±0.02%.
• Noise and ripple: 1 mVrms single and dual output; 2 mVrms triple.

The enclosure measures 104.1 mm (4.10 in) x 63.5 mm (2.50 in) x 150.8 mm (H), with the barrier strip recessed for secure connection.

Configuration Options

Models differ chiefly by output configuration, output current and regulation accuracy, letting you match the supply to a single-, dual- or triple-output requirement.

Single-output models

• PSS-5A delivers +5V at 500 mA; PSS-5B delivers +5V at 1000 mA.
• PSS-10 delivers +10V, PSS-12 delivers +12V and PSS-15 delivers +15V, each at 500 mA.

Dual-output models

• PSS-D12A provides ±12V or 24V at 100 mA and PSS-D12B at 300 mA.
• PSS-D15A provides ±15V or 30V at ±50 mA, PSS-D15B at ±100 mA and PSS-D15C at ±200 mA.

Triple-output models

• PSS-T12 provides ±12V & 5V @ 120 mA; 5V @ 500 mA.
• PSS-T15 provides ±15V & 5V @ 100 mA; 5V @ 500 mA.

Voltage accuracy ranges from ±1% on the single-output models to ±0.5% on the dual-output models.

Key Product Differences

The model number follows the guide PSS-<OUTPUT_TYPE><VOLTAGE><CURRENT_SUFFIX>. The core lineup includes PSS-5A, PSS-5B, PSS-10, PSS-12, PSS-15, PSS-D12A, PSS-D12B, PSS-D15A, PSS-D15B, PSS-D15C, PSS-T12 and PSS-T15.

For 220/230V mains, the PSS-10-220 (+10V, 500 mA) and PSS-D12A-220V (±12V or +24V, 100 mA) are available. The POWER CORD-SE power cord with stripped-end termination is offered as an accessory.
