Supported Applications
The Omega FMXD10-Series comprises top-to-bottom bung-entering tube mixers designed for efficient mixing within 55-gallon drums. These units operate without requiring the removal of the drum lid, utilizing a non-vortexing, non-aerating action to break up and dissolve settled particles.
Documented applications include:
- Mixing liquids with maximum viscosity of 750 cp
- Handling fluids with maximum density of 1.8 S.G.
- Suspending solids with a maximum size of 1/8"
- Mixing flammable materials or operation in explosive environments when configured with the air motor and FMXD3-SK static protection kit
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is engineered for fluid temperatures ranging from 0 to 93°C (32 to 200°F). The mixing tube draws approximately 14 gal of liquid per minute through a 2" diameter internal passage. A shaft-mounted turbine rotates at 3450 RPM, creating suction at four upper intake ports and expelling fluid forcefully from the bottom ports.
Performance specifications vary by motor type:
- Electric Motor (FPUD411/FPUD421): Operates at 3450 RPM or 2850 RPM respectively, with a power rating of ¼ HP.
- Air Motor (FMXD11-AM): Rated at ¾ HP and operates between 300 to 3000 RPM. It requires an air supply of 10 to 15 CFM at 3.4 to 6.2 bar (50 to 90 psig) and includes a flow regulator and muffler.
The mixing tubes measure just under 1 m (38") in overall length.
Configuration Options
The FMXD10-Series offers configurable motor options, wetted materials, and mounting accessories to suit specific process needs. The standard configuration includes the FMXD11 mixing tube with PTFE bearings at the center and base, a graphite-filled PTFE seal, and 316 stainless steel components for the shaft, turbine, mixing tube, seal, and sleeve.
Available motor configurations include:
- FPUD411: ¼ HP electric motor, 115 Vac, 1 Ph, 60 Hz, TEFC type. Includes thermal-overload protection, an on/off switch, and a 3.6 m (12') three-wire cord with plug.
- FPUD421:: ¼ HP electric motor, 220 Vac, 1 Ph, 50 Hz, TEFC type.
- FMXD11-AM: ¾ HP air-driven motor. Requires the FMXD3-SK anti-static protection kit for operation; use of this kit is mandatory when mixing flammable materials or in explosive environments.
Optional accessories include drum adaptors and safety kits:
- FPUD5-PDA: 2" IPS polypro drum adaptor
- FPUD5-GDA: 2" PS galvanized steel drum adaptor
- FPUD5-SDA: 2" IPS 316 SS drum adaptor (allows fixed mounting)
- FMXD3-SK: Static protection kit for the FMXD11 motor
- FMXD345-FL: Filter-lubricator assembly with ¾ FNPT connection for the air motor
