Supported Applications

The Omega WT-3106 and WT-3107 are research quality open loop wind tunnels designed for PCB and component level testing. Documented applications include air flow characterization, flow visualization, thermal resistance measurements, and the generation of P-Q curves.

  • Characterization of different heat sink sizes for natural and forced convection cooling
  • Testing actual or simulated PCBs for thermal and flow distribution
  • Sensor calibration using optional calibrated sensors

The units feature a Plexiglas® test section to support flow visualization.

Operating Conditions & Performance

Performance specifications vary by model. The WT-3106 provides a flow range of 0 to 6 m/s (0 to 1200 ft/min), while the WT-3107 offers a flow range of 0 to 5.5 m/s (0 to 1100 ft/min). Both models achieve ±1% Flow Uniformity.

Power requirements are specified as 24 Vdc at 5.5 Amps; the power supply is provided by the customer. The system utilizes an internal flow management system with honeycombs and screens to ensure uniform flow across the test section.

Model Dimensions

  • WT-3106: 195.3 L x 101.6 W x 84.8 cm D (76.9 x 40 x 33.4"); Test Section: 60.9 L x 60.9 W x 15.2 cm D (24 x 24 x 6")
  • WT-3107: 197.7 L x 101.6 W x 77.2 cm D (77.8 x 40 x 30.4"); Test Section: 60.9 L x 60.9 W x 17.8 cm D (24 x 24 x 7")

Configuration Options

The series supports variable flow rates controlled by 5 fans and includes a switch box to control individual fans. The tunnels can operate vertically or horizontally.

  • Sensor Ports: Comes complete with (18) sensor ports for instrumentation integration.
  • Housing Configuration: Includes a movable plate and housing for customizable setups within the test section.
  • Materials: Construction includes Aluminum, stainless steel, and Plexi-glass™ or Plexiglas® components depending on the specific assembly description.

Optional accessories include calibrated sensors and TVS-1000 Series temperature/velocity profiling packages. A Data Center is listed as an optional accessory in supporting documentation.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between the two models lies in their flow range capabilities and physical dimensions:

  • WT-3106: Designed for a maximum velocity of 1200 ft/min (6 m/s) with a test section depth of 6" (15.2 cm). Weight is 72 kg (159 lb).
  • WT-3107: Designed for a maximum velocity of 1100 ft/min (5.5 m/s) with an increased test section depth of 7" (17.8 cm). Weight is 70 kg (155 lb).

Both models are RoHS compliant and carry a 1 YEAR WARRANTY.
