Supported Applications
The Omega HH802 series comprises portable, dual-channel digital thermometers designed for temperature measurement using external Type J and Type K thermocouples. The handheld units provide a compact solution for field measurements where high accuracy is required, featuring a 5-digit liquid crystal display (LCD) that supports user-selectable Celsius or Fahrenheit scales.
Documented capabilities include:
- Dual temperature indication with MAX/MIN/AVG/REL/HOLD functions
- Audible high and low alarms for threshold monitoring
- Data logging via optional Windows software (USB models) or wireless receiver systems
- Elapsed time tracking alongside dual channel readings
Operating Conditions & Performance
The HH802 series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C at less than 70% relative humidity (RH). Storage conditions are specified as -20 to 60°C with 0 to 80% RH when the battery is removed. The instrument samples data at a rate of 1 time per second.
Measurement ranges and accuracy specifications, excluding thermocouple error, are defined for operating temperatures between 18°C to 28°C (64°F to 82°F) over a one-year period:
- Type K Range: -200.0 to 1370.0°C (-328.0 to 2498.0°F)
- Type J Range: -200.0 to 1200.0°C (-328.0 to 2192.0°F) per the series data sheet; manual documentation lists Type J as -200°C to 1050°C.
- Accuracy (°C): ±(0.05% rdg + 0.3°C) from -50°C to 1370°C and ±(0.05% rdg + 0.7°C) from -50°C to -200°C.
- Accuracy (°F): ±(0.05% rdg + 0.6°F) from -58°F to 2498°F and ±(0.05% rdg + 1.4°F) from -58°F to -328°F.
- Temperature Coefficient: 0.1 times the applicable accuracy specification per °C outside the 18°C to 28°C operating range (specifically 0°C to 18°C and 28°C to 50°C).
The supplied Type K insulated beaded wire thermocouple has a maximum insulation temperature of 482°C (900°F) with an accuracy of ±1.1°C or 0.4% of reading from 0°C to 1250°C.
Configuration Options
The series is available in two primary configurations distinguished by their communication and power interfaces:
- HH802U (USB Model): Features a USB port for data transfer to Windows software via the HH800-SW accessory. Includes a DC power jack compatible with the optional AC adaptor (HH800-ADAPTOR).
- HH802W (Wireless Model): Equipped with a built-in wireless transmitter operating on the 900 MHz frequency band for USA versions. Requires an external receiver and software package, such as HH800W-RSW (USA) or HH800WE-RSW (European version).
All models include two inputs for Type J or K thermocouples, a dual 5-digit display with elapsed time, auto power-off after 30 minutes of inactivity, and are powered by four 1.5V AAA batteries.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the HH802U and HH802W models lies in their connectivity options. The USB variant (HH802U) supports direct wired connection to a PC for data logging using Windows software, whereas the wireless variant (HH802W) transmits readings remotely via radio frequency.
Regional variations exist specifically for the wireless receiver and software accessories: USA versions operate on 900 MHz, while European versions utilize the 868.0 to 868.6 MHz band. The physical dimensions of the unit are consistent across models at approximately 160mm(H) x 83mm(W) x 38mm(D), with a weight of roughly 270g including batteries.
Input protection is rated for a maximum input voltage of 24V dc or 24V ac rms on any combination of input pins. The instrument displays "----" or "OL" in the event of an overload condition.
