Supported Applications
The OMEGASCOPE OS523E/OS524E series are high-temperature, high-performance handheld infrared thermometers for non-contact measurement of surface temperature. Their patented, rugged design, built-in switchable dot or circle laser sighting, and adjustable emissivity make them suited to industrial process monitoring, furnace and kiln work, metals and glass processing, and other settings where targets are hot, moving, energized, or otherwise unsafe to touch. A mini-tripod and RS232 output support fixed-position monitoring and logging to a PC.
These products are not intended for medical use or use on humans. Emissivity is adjustable from 0.1 to 1.00 in 0.01 steps so the operator can match the reading to the target material.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The instruments provide an accuracy of ±1% rdg or 2°C (3.6°F), whichever is greater, with repeatability of ±(1% rdg + 1 digit), a resolution of 1°C or 1°F, and a fast response time of 100 ms.
- Measurement ranges: -18 to 1370°C (0 to 2500°F) on the OS523E models and 538 to 2482°C (1000 to 4500°F) on the OS524E.
- Outputs: RS232 output plus an analog output of 1 mV/degree on the OS523E models and 0.5 mV/degree on the OS524E.
- Laser sighting: 650 nm red beam with a beam diameter of 5 mm (0.2"), a circle operating distance of 0.6 to 4.5 m (2 to 15') and a dot operating distance of 0.6 to 12 m (2 to 40').
- Power: four AA lithium batteries (two sets included), or an optional AC adaptor supplying 100-240 Vac, 9 Vdc.
- Operating temperature: 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F).
- Dimensions: 218 H x 168 D x 51 mm W without the sighting scope and 218 x 218 x 51 mm with the sighting scope.
- Approvals and classifications: CE, EMC, FDA Class II and European Class 2 laser product.
Configuration Options
The two model groups differ chiefly in temperature range and optics. The OS523E-1, OS523E-2, and OS523E-3 cover -18 to 1370°C (0 to 2500°F) with distance-to-spot performance that varies by model, while the OS524E is the high-temperature member, covering 538 to 2482°C (1000 to 4500°F) with a 110:1 distance-to-spot ratio and a 0.5 mV/degree analog output rather than the 1 mV/degree used on the OS523E group. Across both groups, backlit dual display, differential temperature, min/max and average temperature, high and low alarms, an audible buzzer, ambient target temperature compensation, and RS232 output are standard.
Key Product Differences
The model number follows the pattern OS523E, a model digit, and an optional suffix (for example OS523E-2-SC). Each base model is also available with the sighting scope option, denoted by the SC suffix:
- OS523E-1 and OS523E-1-SC
- OS523E-2 and OS523E-2-SC
- OS523E-3 and OS523E-3-SC
- OS524E and OS524E-SC
Available accessories include the CAL-3-IR NIST-traceable calibration, the OS520-RCC and OS520-SC-RCC hard carrying cases, the HH-DM distance meter, the SC-520 sighting scope, the MINI-TRIPOD replacement mini-tripod, and the WRS232-USB wireless RS232 transmitter/receiver.

Quality and Reliable Thermal detection
This is the second OMEGA product purchased for my current institution. The procurement department and customer service through the process was seemless and shipping was performed next day. The performance of the product allows me to gain accurate readings of our 2400F thermal combustion coal ovens, in order to perform repairs relative to the oven surface temperature. Our quality of repairs would not be possible without accurate and reliable reading from the OMEGA product lines.

What type of connection is used for the analog output?
Analog out uses a connector similar to 3.5mm mono connector
Best regards
OMEGA

Does the OS523E-3 come with the NIST-traceable calibration? I don't see that it's listed as an accessory and we need that.
Thank you for your inquiry. This device does not come with a NIST-Traceable Calibration. Click here for a NIST-Traceable Version:

Do you have any products that can give an accurate temp reading through mill scale?
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately we don't have a handheld unit that can measure that surface.

What is this for kind sir? Why a scope?
Thank you for your interest in our product.
It provides a visual indication of the target being measured. Aiming at distant targets (up to 200
feet) becomes much easier by using the Sighting scope.
