Supported Applications
The Omega KTSS/JTSS series comprises thermocouple probes with lead wire and LCP molded transitions, designed for temperature measurement applications. These Molded Transition Joint Probes feature PFA insulated lead wire and stripped lead termination to facilitate direct connection or integration into data acquisition systems.
Probes are engineered with a spring strain relief mechanism intended to prevent wire pinching at the transition point. The series supports integration into wireless thermocouple measurement configurations using OMEGA's UWTC-NEMA transmitter alongside UWTC-REC1 and UWTC-REC2-D receivers.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The probes meet or exceed special limits of error (SLE) per EN 60584-2, classified as Tolerance Class I. The lead wire and molded transition are rated to a process temperature of 260°C (500°F). Upper temperature guidelines for the thermocouple junction vary by calibration type and sheath material:
- Type K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®: Ranges from 899 °C (1650 °F) with 304 SS to 1204 °C (2200 °F) with XL sheaths.
- Type J IRON-CONSTANTAN: Ranges from 441 °C (825 °F) to 721 °C (1330 °F) depending on diameter and material.
- Type T COPPER-CONSTANTAN: Ranges from 260 °C (500 °F) to 371 °C (700 °F).
Standard probe dimensions include a 25.4 mm (1.00 in) spring strain relief, a 31.8 mm (1.25 in) molded transition, and a standard probe length of 152.4 mm (6 in).
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configuration options across calibration types, sheath materials, diameters, lengths, and junction styles.
- Calibration Types: Type K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, Type J IRON-CONSTANTAN, and Type T COPPER-CONSTANTAN.
- Sheath Materials: 304 SS, INC 600, and XL.
- Diameters: Available in 1.59 mm (¹⁄₁₆ in), 3.18 mm (¹⁄₈ in), 4.78 mm (³⁄₁₆ in), and 6.35 mm (¼ in).
- Junction Types: Configurable as Grounded, Exposed, or Ungrounded.
- Lengths: Probe lengths include standard options of 150 mm (6 in) and 300 mm (12 in), with additional stock availability for specific configurations up to 450 mm (18").
Electrical connection is provided via stripped lead termination. Options and accessories include the UWTC-2-NEMA thermocouple transmitter, UWTC-REC1 USB receiver, and UWTC-REC2-D USB receiver with analog output and display.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes models by calibration code (K, J, T), sheath material designation in the model number (SS for 304 SS, IN for INC 600, XL for XL alloy), diameter codes, and junction type. Model numbers follow a structure such as KTSS-<JUNCTION_TYPE><DIAMETER_CODE><LENGTH_CODE>, where specific examples include KTSS-18U-12.
Temperature limits are strictly defined by the combination of calibration and sheath material; for instance, Type K with 304 SS is limited to 899 °C (1650 °F), whereas the same diameter in XL alloy supports up to 1204 °C (2200 °F). The series includes both ANSI-style ordering and specific IEC configurations for certain lengths.
