Supported Applications
The AQM-101 is a desktop formaldehyde (HCHO) monitor and data logger built for indoor air quality (IAQ) diagnosis and HVAC system performance verification. It simultaneously measures and displays HCHO concentration, air temperature, and relative humidity, making it well suited to inspecting residences, offices, schools, and manufactured or newly renovated spaces where off-gassing from building materials and furnishings is a concern.
Three "smiley" icons on the large LCD indicate indoor air quality levels at a glance, while a programmable high alarm with audible and visible LED warnings alerts occupants when concentrations climb. The device continuously computes TWA (Time Weighted Average over 8 hours) and STEL (Short-Term Exposure Limit over 15 minutes) values, supporting exposure assessments against published guidance.
Local regulatory exposure limits will vary. For reference, the unit's documentation lists non-enforced levels such as 0.03 ppm (background outdoor air), 0.10 ppm (a recommended residential upper limit), and 2.00 ppm (a typical OSHA STEL reference).
Operating Conditions & Performance
The AQM-101 measures HCHO across a range of 0.00 to 5.00 ppm, with a resolution of 0.01 ppm for formaldehyde. Temperature is monitored over 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) and relative humidity over 10 to 90% RH. HCHO accuracy is specified as ±5%, ±0.03 ppm, temperature accuracy as ±0.1°C, and humidity accuracy as ±5% RH at 25°C (77°F).
The electrochemical sensor delivers a fast response of less than 30 seconds (T90) and has an expected life of 3 years. Onboard memory stores 32,000 points of logged data. The unit is powered by 4 'AAA' batteries with an optional AC adaptor, and connects to a PC over USB for download. It weighs 165 g (5.8 oz) and carries CE approval. Recommended storage is -40 to 70°C (-40 to 158°F).
Configuration Options
The series centers on a single instrument configuration, the AQM-101, which integrates HCHO, relative humidity, and temperature measurement together with data logging in one desktop unit. All core capabilities — the electrochemical HCHO sensor, LCD display, programmable high alarm, manual 0 ppm calibration, and audible/visible LED warnings — are delivered by this base model.
The only functional difference in the lineup comes from powering options: the base AQM-101 runs on batteries, and adding the AQM-100-PW AC adaptor accessory enables continuous mains-powered logging for long, unattended monitoring sessions.

Very Basic.
Not very useful. Logging doesnt include TWA or STEL. Software very limited. Chart colors are terrible, Dark Blue background not a good choice and cant be changed. Changing line color makes it hard to see numbers on the side of the table. Each reading is a dot and not a continuous line making it hard to track. The only mode that shows up on the chart is Real-Time and it stops showing once it reaches the max 32000 points (doesnt rollover). If you choose RollOver mode, it does not display on the chart. If you download the data you have to do it every time it reaches 32000 points (every 8.8 hrs at 1 second scan rate) and then make your own chart/graph. This would be a decent monitor if they put a little effort into the functionality.

Too Bad Ethanol Sets it Off Too!
I bought these to detect formaldehyde outside of a fume hood in a lab space. Unfortunately it appears that this monitor detects the Methanol in the formaldehyde and not the formaldehyde itself. This is an issue because of the amount of Ethanol that we use of cleaning in our lab, these monitors were going crazy everytime Ethanol was sprayed and once the monitor was pegged it would take 30-40 minutes for it to return to normal levels.
The monitor actually works really well but with our Ethanol use these are not practical in our lab.

Reliable reading and reproducibility
We purchased this model instead of other cheaper versions hoping to get an industrial level accuracy and reliability for the reading. We are quite happy on the reading stability and reproducibility so far. Repeated measurements comparing with fresh outdoor air has been done and this meter has proven to be solid. Battery life is also quite good.
On the other side, you would need a Windows computer to be able to do logging. The unit does not log anything internally.
The meter not only responds to Formaldehyde. It also responds to, say, acetone, tested so far. I would recommend Omega to provide a list of VOCs this meter is also responding to, and the associated corrections need to be applied. Or simply put the options into the firmware.
It is not easy to tell if you are actually getting response from Formaldehyde or it could be some other VOCs being measured. In some limited scenarios, you could associate with the actual smell to distinguish the actual gas you are dealing with. For example, if you are using acetone to do some cleaning, you know the reading is from Acetone.

Do this monitor require calibration, does it have a shelf life or can it be used indefinitely?
