Supported Applications

The Omega TFAU-WIRE series provides thermocouple wire products, including Duplex Insulated OMEGALLOY® (OMEGA-P®/OMEGA-N®) Type N, fine diameter bare wire, and Teflon® insulated Gold and CHROMEGA® thermocouples. These wires are designed for temperature measurement applications requiring specific insulation types such as Ceramic, Silica, Glass, Teflon® Glass, PFA, Teflon®, or Neoflon.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports a range of maximum operating temperatures depending on the selected insulation material. Duplex insulated wire with Nextel Ceramic insulation is rated up to 1090 °C (2000 °F) for AWG 14 and 980 °C (1800 °F) for smaller gauges. Silica-insulated options also reach 1090 °C (2000 °F). High Temp Glass insulation supports up to 704 °C (1300 °F), while standard Glass Braid and Wrap are rated to 482 °C (900 °F). PFA, Teflon®, and Neoflon insulated wires operate at a maximum of 260 °C (500 °F).

ANSI color coding is specified for the duplex wire: Positive wire orange, negative wire red, overall brown. For High Temp Glass HH Wire, the positive leg has a trace thread and the negative leg is red with an overall trace thread.

Configuration Options

The series offers extensive configuration options across insulation types, AWG sizes, and physical forms:

  • Duplex Insulated Wire (Type N): Available in Ceramic, Silica, High Temp Glass, Glass Braid/Wrap, Teflon® Glass, PFA, Teflon®, and Neoflon. AWG sizes include 14, 20, 24, and 30.
  • Fine Diameter Bare Wire: OMEGA-P® Nicrosil and OMEGA-N® Nisil materials are offered in diameters from 0.076 mm (0.003) to 0.81 mm (0.032).
  • Teflon® Insulated Gold-0.07 Atomic% Fe Wire: Available as negative wire with model numbers TFAU.07FE in diameters of 0.076, 0.13, and 0.25 mm.
  • Teflon® Insulated CHROMEGA® Wire: Positive wire available in TFCH models with diameters from 0.076 to 0.25 mm.
  • Thermocouple Assemblies: Teflon® insulated CHROMEGA® Gold-0.07 Atomic% Fe thermocouples are offered as pre-assembled units (e.g., -TC-12 suffix) with lengths starting at 300 mm (12").
  • Pricing and Lengths: Duplex wire is priced per 1000' or SLE/1000'. Bare wire spools are available in 7.5 m, 15 m, 30 m, 60 m, 150 m, and 300 m lengths with corresponding multipliers.

Special limits of error (SLE) wire is available by adding “SLE” to the model number before spool length. OMEGA offers overbraiding services for any thermocouple wire using Inconel 600, 304 SS, or tinned copper.

Key Product Differences

Duplex insulated wires vary by insulation material and AWG size, which directly impacts the maximum temperature rating. For example, Ceramic-insulated XC-N-14 supports 1090 °C (2000 °F), whereas PFA-insulated TT-N-30 is limited to 260 °C (500 °F). Fine diameter bare wire distinguishes between OMEGA-P® Nicrosil and OMEGA-N® Nisil materials. Teflon® insulated options differentiate between Gold-0.07 Atomic% Fe negative wire, CHROMEGA® positive wire, and assembled thermocouples.

Extension wire applications using CHROMEGA® (+) vs Copper (-) are noted for the temperature range -40 to 30°C (-40 to 86°F). Prices for precious metal-containing products are subject to change due to market fluctuations.
