Supported Applications

The Monnit Alta Wireless Open / Closed Detection Sensors are designed to detect when a door or window is opened or closed using a magnetic switch. As part of an enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) solution, the series supports monitoring for doors and windows, cabinets and lockers, IT server closets, and freezer and cooler doors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The sensors operate wirelessly with a range of over 1,000 feet non-line-of-sight through 12-14 walls. They utilize Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) for interference immunity and include Encrypt-RF™ security featuring Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange and AES-128 CBC encryption.

Operating temperature ranges vary by sensor variant:

• Coin Cell Sensor: -7°C to +60°C (20°F to +140°F)
• AA Sensor: -18°C to 55°C (0°F to 130°F) using alkaline; -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F) using lithium
• Industrial Sensor: -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F)

The magnetic switch is an SPST type with gold under-plating and Deactivated Rhodium outer-plating, capable of 50 million activations. The operation gap supports up to 3/4 inch separation between the sensor and magnet.

Configuration Options

The series offers three primary form factors: Coin Cell, AA (Commercial), and Industrial sensors. Each variant includes onboard data memory capable of storing up to 512 readings per sensor and supports over-the-air updates.

Power Options

• Coin Cell and AA models operate on 2.0 - 3.8 VDC
• AA sensors offer a line power option with a barrel power connector (3.0 - 3.6 V power supply) using two 1.5 V AA batteries as backup
• Industrial sensors include an optional solar feature: 5VDC / 30mA solar panel and a 600 mAh rechargeable battery

Certifications

The series holds FCC, CE, Industry Canada approvals. Specific compliance includes EN 300 220-2 V3.1.1 (2017-02) and EN 60950 for 868 and 433 MHz products. The Industrial Sensor is UL Listed to UL508-4x specifications (File E194432).

Key Product Differences

The Coin Cell variant weighs 0.7 Ounces, the AA variant weighs 3.7 Ounches, and the Industrial variant weighs 4.7 Ounces. The magnet included with each sensor is an Alnico type covered in weatherproof, high-impact ABS plastic with self-adhesive backing.

Wire leads are provided as 22 gauge / 15 inch length for connection to the magnetic switch. Current consumption varies by mode: 0.2 µA (Sleep Mode), 0.7 µA (RTC Sleep), 570 µA (MCU Idle), 2.5 mA (MCU Active), 5.5 mA (Radio RX Mode), and 22.6 mA (Radio TX Mode).

Commercial grade sensors are not recommended for corrosive gas, volatile or flammable gas, dusty conditions, low or high pressure, wet or excessively humid locations, salt water, oils, chemical liquids, organic solvents, or areas with strong vibrations.
