Supported Applications

The Series SPPM Smart Programmable Panel Meters are configurable, full-color touch-screen displays for a wide variety of monitoring tasks. Using a USB connection, each meter is configured with downloadable software on any computer running Windows-based software, and the graphics can be customized to read and graph process values such as pressure, temperature, and humidity. This makes the series a flexible panel-mount indicator for machine builders, OEM equipment, and process panels that need a clear, reconfigurable readout.

Meters are offered with a 2.4”, 2.8”, or 3.5” screen, so the display can be matched to panel space and viewing distance. Note that the display is not protected against moisture or dust and should only be cleaned with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth; where the meter is exposed to weather or tampering, the optional SPPM-HSG weatherproof housing provides a NEMA 4X (IP66) enclosure. For safety, isolate the meter from both the supply and signal voltages before connecting the USB, and launch the software before plugging in the meter.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The voltage-input meters accept switch-selectable ranges of 0-1.25 V, 0-2.5 V, 0-4 V, 0-5 V, 0-8 V, 0-10 V, 0-20 V, and 0-40 V, with a display resolution of 0.3 to 9.8 mV depending on the input range. Overall accuracy is 0.1%, the sampling rate is 3 samples per second, and the display is a 320 x 240 pixel TFT full-color screen. The current-input (-C) versions add a scalable input of 0 to 50 mA, factory set to 4-20 mA.

Power is 4 to 30 VDC with a current consumption of 190 mA max, and connections are made through screw terminals, a pin connection (DIL IDC socket), or USB. The meter operates over 32 to 104°F (0 to 40°C). The current-input models require a fully floating power supply with respect to the current loop, isolated from the loop. The meters are CE and RoHS compliant.

Measurement capability can be extended with the A-SPPM-TC thermocouple input board, which connects J, K, or T thermocouples directly to any Series SPPM panel meter and ships with a standard K-type thermocouple. Through this board the system reads a K-type range of -328 to 2462°F (-200 to 1350°C), a J-type range of -328 to 2174°F (-200 to 1190°C), and a T-type range of -328 to 734°F (-200 to 390°C), with an accuracy of ±2.0°F (±1.0°C) and built-in cold-junction compensation.

Configuration Options

The models differ in two independent ways: the screen size and whether the meter accepts a current input.

• Screen size: the -24 models use a 2.4” screen, the -28 models a 2.8” screen, and the -35 models a 3.5” screen. This also sets the physical footprint — the SPPM-24 is 3 in (76.45 mm) wide, the SPPM-28 is 3-17/32 in (89.51 mm) wide, and the SPPM-35 is 3-25/32 in (96.00 mm) wide.
• Input type: the base models are voltage-input meters, while the -C models add a scalable current input of 0 to 50 mA. For the current-input models, the dual-channel meter styles are not compatible.

All models share the same full-color touch-screen platform, USB configuration, 0.1% accuracy, and 3 samples-per-second update rate.
