Supported Applications
The Omega FDT7000 Series consists of non-invasive, transit-time ultrasonic flow meters designed for measuring clean water-based liquids. These clamp-on devices are engineered specifically for installation on PVC-U, PP-R, and UPVC pipe systems where the transducers mount to the exterior of the pipe without contacting the internal fluid.
Key application characteristics include:
- Pipe Materials: Designed for sound-conducting pipes including PVC, PP, and UPVC.
- Media Compatibility: Clean water-based liquids only; not intended for corrosive or scaling fluids unless the pipe interior is free of excessive corrosion or sediment.
- Installation Context: Suitable for vertical pipes with upward flow or full horizontal pipes to ensure consistent liquid contact and avoid signal attenuation from bubbles or cavitation at the 6 o'clock position.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The FDT7000 Series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) for both the transmitter and transducer. The enclosure is rated IP54 (NEMA 3), protecting against dust ingress and water spray, with a humidity tolerance up to 99% RH non-condensing.
Performance specifications are defined by pipe size and flow velocity:
- Measurement Range: Velocity ranges from 0.1 to 6 m/s (0.3 to 19 ft/s). Volumetric flow rates vary by model, spanning from 5.6 LPM (0.15 GPM) on the FDT7020 up to 25,400 LPM (6,705 GPM) on the FDT7300.
- Accuracy: ±1.5% FS.
- Repeatability: 0.3%.
To maintain measurement integrity, installation sites require straight pipe runs of at least 10D upstream and 5D downstream from flow disturbances such as valves or elbows; specific requirements for pumps (L ≥ 50D) and tees are documented in the selection guide.
Configuration Options
The series offers a broad envelope of pipe sizes, split into two mounting configurations based on diameter:
- Snap-on Configuration (FDT7020 to FDT7063): Covers DIN sizes 20 through 63. These models feature an ABS plastic enclosure with dimensions ranging from 88 mm height for the FDT7020 to 131 mm for the FDT7063.
- V-Track Configuration (FDT7065 to FDT7300): Covers DIN sizes 65 through 300. These larger models utilize a V-track mounting system with lengths extending up to 525 mm for the FDT7250 and FDT7300.
Outputs and Power:
- Power Supply: 10 to 36 Vdc, maximum 500 mA. Includes a standard 3 m power supply cable.
- Analog Output: 4 to 20 mA (zero to full scale) is available for models FDT7020 through FDT7050 only; this output shares a common ground with the power supply and sources current across loop resistance.
- Digital Communication: RS485 interface supporting Modbus® protocol is standard across the series.
The unit includes an LCD display for real-time flow rate and total volume, configurable in units such as m³/h, L/min, or gpm. Each meter ships complete with acoustic gel and an operator's manual.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the FDT7000 Series are distinguished primarily by pipe diameter compatibility and mounting style:
- FDT7020 to FDT7063 (Snap-on): Designed for smaller diameters with a compact form factor. The 4-20 mA output is restricted to models up to the FDT7050.
- FDT7065 to FDT7300 (V-Track): Engineered for larger pipe sizes requiring V-track mounting hardware; these models do not include the 4-20 mA analog output option listed in the series specifications, relying on RS485 communication.
All models share identical environmental ratings and measurement technology but differ in physical dimensions to accommodate specific Pipe OD ranges from 20 mm (¾") up to 300 mm (12").
