Supported Applications

The Omega FV100 Series comprises inline vortex shedding flowmeters designed for measuring the flow of water and coolants. These meters are suitable for non-viscous, clean or dirty water-like liquids compatible with brass, PVDF, and Viton (FKM). The series is documented for use in cooling loops utilizing water or 50% glycols, as well as water-soluble machine coolant up to 10%. Applications include rubber, steel, fabrication, manufacturing, refining, paper, chemical, food, petrochemical, and power industries. Do not use on flammable liquids or gases such as air.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FV100 Series operates with a process temperature range of 35°F (2°C) to 185°F (85°C), extending to 186°F to 210°F (85°C to 99°C) with reduced rating of the solid state relay. Accuracy is specified as ±2% FS for flow and ±1% FS for temperature on FV100-T units, with repeatability at ±0.25% FS. Response time is user selectable from 0.9 to 7.5 seconds for flow; temperature response is 1.8 s to 63% of flow.

Pressure ratings vary by size: 2" and smaller sizes are rated to 20 bar (300 psig), while 3" and 4" sizes are rated to 13 bar (200 psig). The enclosure rating is IP65, Type 1, 3, 4, 12, & 13. Power supply requirements are 10 - 30 VDC @ 80 mA.

Configuration Options

The series offers a broad range of process connections and flow ranges to accommodate different pipe sizes:

  • Process Connections: Available in ¼ FNPT, ½ FNPT, ¾ FNPT, 1 FNPT, 1½ FNPT, 2 FNPT, 3" ANSI RF, and 4" ANSI RF.
  • Flow Ranges (GPM): Configurable from 0.4 to 600 GPM depending on the model size (e.g., FV101: 0.4–4 GPM; FV108: 60–600 GPM).
  • Output Signals: Standard units provide a 4 to 20 mA analog output and an SPST Solid State Relay (SSR) alarm with selectable NO or NC operation. The SSR is optically isolated, rated at 250 mA @ 30 VDC for FV101/102 models.
  • Temperature Options: Models designated "-T" include a temperature transmitter function providing an additional 4 to 20 mA Temperature Output and SSR Alarm for temperature. These units utilize an 8-pin male micro connector, whereas standard flow-only units use a 5-pin micro male connector.
  • Wetted Materials: Standard construction includes brass bodies with PVDF sensing elements and FKM seals. 316 SS bodies are available for special order on ¼" and ½" sizes.

The display features a bright LED that can be rotated 180° for viewing convenience. Accessories include replacement cables in lengths of 1 m, 3 m, and 10 m (FV100-C series) or 2 m, 5 m, and 10 m (FV100-CT series), as well as a regulated power supply.

Key Product Differences

The FV100 Series is divided into flow-only models (e.g., FV101 through FV108) and combined flow/temperature transmitter models (FV103-T through FV108-T). The primary distinction lies in the output capabilities: standard units provide a single 4-20 mA signal for flow, while "-T" variants add a second channel for temperature measurement with its own analog output and alarm relay. Electrical connections differ accordingly; flow-only models use a 5-pin connector (White/Flow Signal, Brown/Supply, Gray & Black/Relay Contacts, Blue/Ground), whereas FV100-T units utilize an 8-pin configuration to accommodate the additional temperature signal and relay contacts.

Model numbers correspond directly to pipe size: FV101 is ¼", FV102 is ½", up through FV107 (3") and FV108 (4"). The SSR current rating varies by model; FV101 and FV102 support 250 mA @ 30 VDC, while models FV103 through FV108 are rated at 125 mA @ 30 VDC up to 85°C (185°F), with reduced current ratings at higher temperatures.
