Supported Applications

The ACI CTS-M5 Series is a microprocessor-based transmitter designed for the detection and monitoring of toxic gases, specifically Oxygen (O₂) and Ammonia (NH₃), in industrial environments. The series utilizes electrochemical gas sensors to measure concentrations within defined ranges: 0-100 ppm for NH₃ and 0-25% v/v for O₂. These transmitters are configured for room or duct mounting applications, providing analog output signals proportional to the measured gas range for transmission to building management systems.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CTS-M5 operates within an ambient temperature range of -4°F to 104°F (-20°C to 40°C) and a humidity rating of 15 to 90% RH continuous, non-condensing (or 0 to 99% RH intermittent). The device is rated for atmospheric pressure +/- 10%. Performance specifications include an accuracy of +/– 2.5% of Reading and repeatability of +/– 1% of Reading. Response time is less than 60 seconds for 90% of a step change.

Storage conditions require temperatures between 32° to 68°F (0°C to 20°C), with a unit shelf life of 6 months from the date of purchase. Sensor life expectancy varies by gas type: typical sensor life is 18 months for Oxygen and 2-3 years for Ammonia.

Configuration Options

The series supports configurable mounting options, output signals, and optional alarm features to accommodate specific installation needs. Key capabilities include:

  • Sensor Types: Oxygen (O₂) or Ammonia (NH₃).
  • Mounting Configurations: Room mount or Duct mount.
  • Housing Material: Polycarbonate/ABS Blend for room applications.
  • Analog Outputs: 4-20 mA or 2-10 VDC linear signals proportional to the gas range.
  • Display & Indicators: Alphanumeric, 2-line x 8-digit LCD with two red LEDs for relay status (on select models).
  • Optional Alarm Package: Includes a buzzer and two SPDT Form C dry contact relays. Relay ratings are 1A @ 30 VDC or 0.5A @ 125 VAC resistive load, with a life expectancy of 200,000 cycles minimum at 1A @ 30 VDC.
  • Time Delays: Actuation and de-actuation delays configurable from 0 to 60 minutes in 5-minute increments.

The unit features on-board meter jacks for voltage monitoring (requiring at least 50,000 ohms input impedance) and supports power wiring of 16 to 26 AWG shielded twisted pair. Power supply options include 24 VAC +/- 10% floating or one side grounded, and 24 VDC.

Key Product Differences

The CTS-M5 series is differentiated by sensor type (Oxygen vs. Ammonia), mounting style (Room vs. Duct), and the inclusion of display/relay/buzzer options. Model numbers follow the pattern CTS-M5<SENSOR_TYPE><MOUNT_TYPE><DISPLAY_RELAY_BUZZER_OPTION>. For example, models ending in "-Q0R0000" indicate a Room Mount with Display, Relay, and Buzzer, while those without these suffixes represent standard enclosure configurations.

Specific model distinctions include:

  • Oxygen Models (130): Configured for O₂ detection. Recommended mounting height is 4-6' above the floor.
  • Ammonia Models (220): Configured for NH₃ detection. Recommended mounting height is 6-18' below the ceiling due to gas density characteristics.
  • Duct Mount Variants: Feature a deeper enclosure profile compared to room mount units, with dimensions of H 6.00" (152.4 mm) x W 3.5" (88.9 mm) x D 1.6" (40.6 mm).
  • Room Mount Variants: Dimensions are H 6.00" (152.4 mm) x W 3.50" (88.9 mm) x D 1.09" (27.87 mm), weighing 0.62 lbs (281.2 g).

Note: The CTS-M5 is not compatible with Q4C-II, M-Controller 2, or Q-controllers, nor does it support Modbus RTU communication.
