Supported Applications
The Omega HHLM3 series comprises portable, one-hand operated digital lightmeters designed to measure illuminance in lux and footcandles (fc). The HHLMS model is a compact-sized device featuring PEAK-HOLD for 50ms pulse lights and DATA-HOLD functions. Documented application contexts include general offices, lobbies, meeting rooms, warehouses, schools, hospitals, hotels, residential settings, factories, and research & development departments.
Specific environments referenced in the series documentation span:
- Office & Commercial: Design rooms, typing areas, telephone switchboards, printer rooms, entertainment spaces, restaurants, security rooms, restrooms, tea rooms, outdoor stairs, and elevators.
- Industrial & Factory: Precision working zones, packing halls, dyeing areas, passways, and warehouses.
- Hospitality & Healthcare: Vision examination rooms, operating rooms, clinic/drug/nursing rooms, waiting rooms, x-ray rooms, check-in/out desks, kitchens, laundry rooms, balconies, porches, gardens, and showers.
- Educational & Public: Computer rooms, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, libraries, indoor stadiums, outdoor stadiums, safety doors, garages, and hallways.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F) at less than 70% relative humidity. Storage conditions are specified as -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F), with a requirement that the battery be removed from the meter during storage, maintaining 0 to 80% RH.
Performance specifications for illuminance measurement include:
- Ranges (Lux): 20 lux, 200 lux, 2000 lux, and 20000 lux.
- Ranges (Foot-candles): 20 fc, 200 fc, 2000 fc, and 20000 fc.
- Resolution: 0.01 lux and 0.01 fc.
- Accuracy (HHLMS): ±(3%rdg + 10dgt) for CIE standard illuminant A.
- Display: 3½ digit LCD with a maximum reading of 1999.
The HHLMS model features a response time of 2.5 times per second (normal). The series includes low battery indication, displaying "BATT" when voltage drops below the operating level, and offers a typical battery life of 300 hours.
Configuration Options
The Omega HHLM3 series is available in specific configurations tailored for different measurement needs. The primary variants include:
- HHL3 (HHLMS): Lux light meter measuring illuminance in lux and footcandles.
- HHUVA1: UVA (ultraviolet) meter capable of measuring irradiance ranges from 0 to 199.9 μW/cm², 0 to 1.999 mW/cm², and 0 to 19.99 mW/cm².
- SC546: Soft carrying case accessory included with the units.
Physical characteristics for the handheld unit are approximately 152mm(H) x 48mm(W) x 26mm(D) (HHLMS manual data) or 155 H x 48 W x 24 mm D (6" x 1.8" x 0.9") per the series datasheet, with a weight of approximately 81 g (3 oz) including battery.
Power is supplied by four 1.5V AAA batteries included in the package. The unit features a hand hook and magnetic holder on the back for mounting or carrying. Approvals include CE certification.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between models based on measurement type:
- HHL3/HHLMS: Dedicated to illuminance (lux and footcandles) with PEAK-HOLD functionality for 50ms pulse lights.
- HHUVA1: Dedicated to UVA irradiance measurements in μW/cm² and mW/cm², utilizing a silicon photodiode sensor. Accuracy specifications for this model are stated as ± (3% FS +1 digit) using a 2856 K standard light source or ± (4% FS ±2 dgts).
Both models share common operating environments and physical form factors, including the LCD display with low battery indication. The HHLMS manual notes specific warnings regarding operation in wet conditions, explosive atmospheres, and exposure to high-intensity rays without eye protection.
