Supported Applications

The Omega CN1511 series is a wall-mount programmable temperature controller designed for heating or cooling applications requiring selectable heat/cool modes. The unit combines the ease of an ON/OFF controller with PID control precision, supporting up to five independent ramp and soak programs, each containing up to ten segments. It features manual hold functionality, manual set-point entry, and tracks maximum and minimum temperature readings.

The series accepts a broad range of inputs including thermocouples (J, K, T, E, R, S, B), RTDs (Pt100 Ω), thermistors (2252 Ω @ 25°C), voltage (0 to 10 Vdc), current (4 to 20 mA loop current), and millivolt signals (0 to 100 mV). It is configured for process monitoring with programmable scaling, offset, rate of change/time base, proportional band, reset time, and on/off deadband.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The CN1511 series operates within specific measurement ranges depending on the selected input type. Thermocouple inputs cover ranges from -200 to 1600°C (-328 to 2900°F) for types J, K, T, E, R, and S, with Type B ranging from 470 to 1800°C (900 to 3300°F). RTD inputs support -200 to 800°C (-328 to 1472°F) for Pt100 Ω (RTD-385) and -100 to 450°C (-148 to 842°F) for RTD-392. Thermistor inputs range from -8.0 to 100°C (17 to 212°F). Voltage, current, and millivolt signals are scalable from 1 to 30,000 counts.

Accuracy specifications vary by input type: ±1°C ±1 count or ±2°F ±1 count for most thermocouples and RTDs; ±3°C ±1 count or ±6°F ±1 count for R, S, and B types; and ±0.5°C ±1 count or ±1.0°F ±1 count for thermistors. Voltage, current, and millivolt inputs offer 0.05% FS accuracy with a resolution of 0.05%. The unit features a red 7-segment LED display (20 mm H) with negative polarity indication and an out-of-range 'HELP' message.

Performance includes cold junction compensation error of ±0.5°C @ 10 to 45°C, open thermocouple indication ('OPEN TC'), and a typical A/D conversion rate of 7/s using a dual slope integrating converter with 20,000 count resolution (4 ½ digit). The enclosure is rated up to IP65 (DIN standard) for protection against dust and moisture.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple configuration options across power supply, output types, and accessories:

  • Power Supply Options: 120 Vac (60 Hz) standard; optional 240 Vac @ 50 Hz or 8 to 15 Vdc @ 900 mA.
  • Output Configurations: Standard control output provides a 5 Vdc drive @ 50 mA max. Optional outputs include six open-collector transistors (maximum sink capability of 50 mA per output) or relay modules with SPST contacts rated at 1 A @ 28 Vdc or 0.5 A @ 120 Vac resistive load.
  • Relay Modules: Universal mechanical relay options include the RELAY-URM-400 (4-relay, 15 A) and RELAY-URM-800 (8-relay, 15 A).
  • Housing & Connections: Polystyrene enclosure with a crystal-clear polycarbonate lid. Electrical connections utilize Euro-style pluggable connectors.

Key Product Differences

The CN1511 series is ordered using the format CN1511-<Input Code>-<Power Option>-<Output Option>. Input codes define the sensor type: TC (J, K, T, E), RTD (Pt100 Ω), TH (Thermistor), R, S, B, P (0 to 100 mV), V (0 to 10 Vdc), or C (4 to 20 mA). Power options include suffix -1 for 240 Vac and -2 for 8 to 15 Vdc. Output options are designated by suffix -3 for six relay outputs (configured as four alarms and two timers) or -4 for six open-collector outputs.

Specific model variations in the series include CN1511-B, CN1511-C, CN1511-P, CN1511-R, CN1511-RTD, CN1511-S, CN1511-V, and variants such as CN1511TC and CN1511TC-4. The unit includes a built-in buzzer for alarms (optional) and two programmable timers (optional). Calibration is NIST traceable with recalibration recommended at 12-month intervals.
