Supported Applications
The Dwyer Model 8904 Integral Vane Thermo-Anemometer is designed for HVAC inspection, energy audits, and balancing applications. The device simultaneously measures air velocity and temperature to support heat, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration wind flow assessments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Model 8904 operates within an air velocity range of 80 to 5900 ft/min (0.4 to 30 m/s) with a resolution of 1 ft/min (0.01 m/s). Air velocity accuracy is specified as ±2% of reading ±0.2 m/s, and the response time for air velocity readings is 1 second.
Ambient temperature measurement ranges from 14 to 122°F (-10 to 50°C) with a resolution of 0.1°F/°C. Temperature accuracy is ±1°F (±0.6°C), and the response time for temperature readings is 60 seconds.
The unit features a large dual display measuring 1.3 x 1.6" (34 x 40 mm). The vane diameter is 2-7/8" (70 mm).
Configuration Options
The Model 8904 offers user-selectable wind speed units including ft/min, m/sec, knots, mph, and km/hr. Temperature can be displayed in °F or °C.
- Data Recording: The meter records minimum, maximum, and average readings on a single point. It supports recording up to 2 hours of data while displaying the continuous running average.
- Communications: An RS-232 interface is available for serial communications at 2400 bps with 8 data bits.
- Power & Portability: Powered by a user-replaceable 9 V alkaline battery (included), the meter provides approximately 100 hours of battery life. The unit weighs 5.3 oz (150 g) and includes a hard carrying case.

Key Product Differences
The Model 8904 is distinguished from related models in the AZ series by its specific feature set:
- Air Flow Volume Measurement: Unlike the Model 8903, which lacks air flow volume measurement capabilities, and the Model 8906, which includes them, the Model 8904 does not support Air Flow/Air volume (CFM/CMS) calculations.
- Selectable Units: The Model 8904 supports selectable units for Knots, MPH, and KM/H. In contrast, the Model 8903 does not offer these selectable unit options.
