Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series FS-2 Vane Flow Switch provides an economical flow proving solution for "flow or no flow" applications. Documented uses include boiler flow proving, hot water heaters, chillers, cooling lines, machinery, and liquid transfer systems involving compatible liquids.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series FS-2 is designed to operate with a process temperature up to 230°F (110°C) and withstands pressures of 145 psig (10 bar). The switch features an SPDT snap action output where the N.O. contact closes and the N.C. contact opens when flow increases to the actuation point, returning to normal conditions as flow decreases.
Flow rate performance varies by pipe diameter and vane adjustment settings for water applications:
- 1" Pipe: Actuate range 4.0 GPM (15.0 LPM) to 8.8 GPM (33.3 LPM); Deactuate range 1.8 GPM (6.7 LPM) to 6.6 GPM (25.0 LPM).
- 4" Pipe: Actuate range 59.4 GPM (225.0 LPM) to 123.3 GPM (466.7 LPM); Deactuate range 52.8 GPM (200.0 LPM) to 114.5 GPM (433.3 LPM).
- 8" Pipe: Actuate range 184.9 GPM (700.0 LPM) to 396.3 GPM (1500.0 LPM); Deactuate range 155.8 GPM (600.0 LPM) to 374.2 GPM (1416.7 LPM).

Configuration Options
The series supports configurable process connections, electrical interfaces, and vane lengths to accommodate pipes ranging from 1" to 8". Key configuration options include:
- Housing & Enclosure: Die-cast aluminum alloy housing with NEMA 4 (IP64) rating for weatherproof outdoor installation.
- Process Connections: Standard 1" male NPT or optional BSPT process connection (-BSPT suffix).
- Electrical Connection: Cable gland with attached wire leads, or an optional 1" NPT female conduit connection without wire leads (-CND suffix).
- Vane Adjustment: Field-adjustable set point screw and adjustable vane layers to tailor custom set points.
The wetted materials consist of a forged brass body, tin-bronze bellow, and stainless steel (SS) vane. The unit weighs 28.22 oz (0.8 kg).
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series FS-2 differ primarily by process connection type and electrical interface configuration:
- FS-2: Standard model with 1" male NPT process connection.
- -BSPT Suffix: Indicates a BSPT process connection option.
- -CND Suffix: Provides a 1" NPT female conduit connection and removes the attached wire leads.
The series is not field serviceable; repair requires returning the unit to the manufacturer. Users are advised against adjusting the pre-set bolt shown in installation diagrams, as this may cause switch malfunction or void the warranty.
