Supported Applications

The CS8DPT and CS8EPT are PLATINUM Series universal high-accuracy benchtop digital PID controllers, built for laboratory and other applications that need portable temperature, process or strain measurement and control. A universal input reads most temperature, process and bridge-type sensors, and each unit is factory calibrated for optimum performance across its full range.

A dual, color-changing LED display shows both setpoint and real-time process value, and can be programmed to switch between GREEN, AMBER and RED at any setpoint or alarm point for at-a-glance status. Connectivity is a core strength: a USB port is standard, with optional embedded Ethernet, isolated RS232/RS485 serial communications and Modbus support for data logging and remote monitoring.

The controllers are CE, UKCA and cULus listed. Safety: do not exceed the voltage rating, always disconnect power before changing signal or power connections, and do not operate in flammable or explosive environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The universal input supports thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, analog voltage and current, and strain, with a resolution of 1° or 0.1° on temperature. Process and strain inputs are accurate to 0.03% FS, and thermocouple/RTD accuracy is specified by type:

  • Type J: -210 to 1200°C (-346 to 2192°F), to 0.4°C (0.7°F).
  • Type K: -160 to 1372°C (-256 to 2502°F).
  • Type T: -190 to 400°C (-310 to 752°F), to 0.4°C (0.7°F).
  • Type E: -220 to 1000°C (-364 to 1832°F), to 0.4°C (0.7°F).
  • Type R: 40 to 1788°C (104 to 3250°F).
  • Type S: 100 to 1768°C (212 to 3214°F), to 0.5°C (0.9°F).
  • Type C: 0 to 2320°C (32 to 4208°F), to 0.4°C (0.7°F).
  • Type N: -100 to 1300°C (-148 to 2372°F), to 0.4°C (0.7°F).
  • RTD (Pt, 100Ω): -200 to 850°C (-328 to 1562°F), to 0.3°C (0.7°F).

Process voltage inputs cover ±50 mV, ±100 mV, ±1 Vdc and ±10 Vdc, with process current scalable within 0 to 24 mA. Supported RTDs are 100Ω, 500Ω and 1000Ω Pt (2-, 3- or 4-wire), and thermistors of 2252Ω, 5kΩ and 10kΩ. A dual-slope A/D converter delivers a 20-samples-per-second reading rate with a programmable digital filter, and firmware-selectable excitation is provided to 5, 10, 12, and 24 Vdc @ 25 mA.

Power is a universal 90 to 240 Vac, 50 to 60 Hz supply through an IEC 60320 C-13 socket. Internal control outputs include a 5A SSR and a 3A relay plus an analog process output.

Configuration Options

The family is built on two display formats and a common set of factory-fitted communication and output options. The order code is CS8DPT/CS8EPT - <Display Digits> - <Ethernet Option> - <Analog Output Option>, so the model tells you exactly which capabilities are installed:

  • Display: CS8DPT provides a 4-digit display; CS8EPT provides a 6-digit display. Both are three-color LED with 21 mm (83") and 10.2 mm (40") digit sizes.
  • -EIP - embedded Ethernet.
  • -C24 - isolated RS232 and RS485 serial communication.
  • -A - isolated analog output.

Because these options are ordered into the part number, a fully loaded controller such as CS8DPT-C24-EIP-A combines the 4-digit display with embedded Ethernet, serial communication and an isolated analog output, while the base CS8DPT delivers the universal input and dual color display on their own.

Key Product Differences

Four core models are offered, split by display size and option content:

  • CS8DPT - benchtop controller, universal input with 4-digit display.
  • CS8DPT-C24-EIP-A - 4-digit display with embedded Ethernet, serial communication and isolated analog output.
  • CS8EPT - benchtop controller, universal input with 6-digit display.
  • CS8EPT-C24-EIP-A - 6-digit display with embedded Ethernet, serial communication and isolated analog output.

Region-specific power cords are ordered separately, including POWER CORD-UK, POWER CORD-IT and POWER CORD-MOLDED for North America, plus a stripped-end cord rated to 250 Vac. Each unit ships with output cords for wiring equipment and a wire kit for RTD and bridge inputs. The controller measures 236 W x 230 D x 108 mm H (9.3 x 9.1 x 4.3") and weighs 1.13 kg (2.5 lb), keeping it compact for the bench.
