Supported Applications
The Omega EXPP Series consists of UL Listed Extension Grade Thermocouple Wire designed for Power Limited Tray Cable (PLTC) applications. The series is listed under UL Subject 13, File E153789 as Type PLTC. These duplex wires are engineered to extend thermocouple signals from the sensor to instrumentation while maintaining ANSI color coding standards.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The EXPP Series performs continuously at temperatures up to 105°C (220°F). The wire features extruded PVC single conductor and duplex insulation that is resistant to moisture, abrasion, chemicals, and UV light. A critical installation constraint noted in the documentation states that overbraiding the wire invalidates the UL rating.
Configuration Options
The series supports multiple thermocouple types with specific conductor materials:
- Type KX (CHROMEGA®/ALOMEGA®): Available in AWG 14, 16S, 16, 18S, 20S, and 20.
- Type EX (CHROMEGA®/Constantan): Available in AWG 16, 18S, and 20.
- Type RX/SX (Copper/Alloy#11): Available in AWG 16.
- Type JX (Iron/Constantan): Available in AWG 14, 16S, 16, 20S, and 20.
- Type TX (Copper/Constantan): Available in AWG 14, 16, 20S, and 20.
The series offers flexible wire suitable for conduit and wiring tray installation. Insulation is easily stripped by hand or mechanical methods. Standard spool lengths include 25 ft, 50 ft, 100 ft, 200 ft, 500 ft, and 1000 ft (7.5 m, 30 m, 60 m, 150 m, and 300 m). Model numbers follow the format EXPP-TYPE-GUAGE-UL-LENGTH.
Key Product Differences
Variants differ by thermocouple type (KX, EX, RX/SX, JX, TX), AWG gage size, and conductor construction. The 'S' suffix denotes stranded wire; for example, a 20S model consists of seven strands of 28 AWG wire (7/28). Nominal overall dimensions vary by gage, ranging from approximately 3.5 x 5.2 mm to 4.7 x 7.3 mm depending on the specific type and size selected.
